Not sure which engine you have, but most of them are on the lower front of the engine as in this diagram. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5973094-starter_replace for more info. These are generic instructions. Note, for your car you may need to remove the flywheel cover to get the starter out. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me. I will paste instructions from autozone.com below.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

3.1L, 3.4L (VIN X) and 3.8L Engines
WARNING Remember that the positive battery cable to the starter motor is electrically "hot" all the time. You must open the circuit by disconnecting the negative battery cable before servicing the starter motor.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the electrical connections at the starter,
  4. Remove the torque converter cover. Usually this is just a few small screws and/or small bolts
  5. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts. Use care as the starter is relatively heavy. Do not allow it to fall. Take note of any thin metal shims between the starter and engine block. They may be required during installation.
To install:
  1. Position the starter motor, including any shims found at removal, to the engine block and install the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  2. Install the torque converter cover and tighten the torque converter cover screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Position the wires to the starter. Tighten the starter solenoid "BAT" (heavy cable) nut to 84 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Tighten the starter solenoid S terminal nut to just 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Connect the battery negative cable. Start the engine to verify correct operation.

3.4L (VIN E) Engine
WARNING Remember that the positive battery cable to the starter motor is electrically "hot" all the time. You must open the circuit by disconnecting the negative battery cable before servicing the starter motor.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the front lower air deflector panel by locating the deflector retainers. These are push-in retainers and should be carefully pried loose. Remove the ambient temperature sensor, if equipped.
  4. Remove the two torque converter covers. They are retained by small screws.
  5. Remove the starter solenoid "BAT" terminal nut (the large one) and disconnect the battery positive cable from the starter motor. Remove the S terminal nut and disconnect the solenoid wire.
  6. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts. Use care. The starter is relatively heavy. Do not allow it to fall. Take note of any thin metal shims between the starter and engine block. They may be required at installation.

To install:
  1. Verify the correct starter motor has been obtained. Position the starter motor, including any shims found at removal, to the engine block and install the mounting bolts finger-tight until seated. Torque the bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  2. Position the wires to the starter. Install the nuts finger-tight, then tighten the starter solenoid "BAT" (heavy cable) nut to 84 inch lbs. Tighten the starter solenoid S terminal nut to just 20 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  3. Install the torque converter covers and tighten the torque converter cover screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4. Install the front lower air deflector panel by pressing in the plastic retainers.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the battery negative cable. Start the engine to verify correct operation

How can I jump the starter on my 91 camaro?

hot wire starter you can short out ignition switch and wiring. to jump starter ignition switch start postion.you have to run 10 gauge jumper wire from the starter solenoid positive battery terminal to starter switch or S terminal on starter solenoid this procedure take two people but better remove starter replace starter solenoid. trying jumping off starter on camaro would be dangerous you have jack up car to get to starter and wiring person laying under car hot wiring starter while other person hold ignition start position put person under car in deadly position just remove starter have auto parts check it out first replace starter or solenoid if either bad. easier hot wire starter if starter under hood like my 1977 vega monza had starter at top could take long screw driver jump starter off.on the four cylinders engines back in the 70s. camaro starter under car dangerous trying to hot wire not a good idea.

How to get to the starter

STARTING SYSTEM Starter REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Disconnect the wiring from the starter motor 88162p10.jpg
Fig. 2: After unbolting the starter, remove it from the vehicle 88162p11.jpg
In 1978, a gear reduction starter was introduced on some Canadian and United States models. The differences between the gear reduction and conventional starters are: the gear reduction starter has a set of ratio reduction gears while the conventional starter does not. The extra gears on the gear reduction starter make the starter pinion gear turn at about half the speed of the starter, giving the starter twice the turning power of a conventional starter.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2. Tag and disconnect the wiring at the starter, taking note of the positions for correct reinstallation.
  3. Remove the bolts attaching the starter to the engine and remove the starter from the vehicle.
  4. Install the starter in the reverse order of removal.

Replacing a new starter on a 93 isuzu rodeo

Don't know what size motor you have because you didn't post it so please pick the proper one:

This is for the 4 cylinder motor--

8e64f3e.gif
4-cylinder engine starter connections

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  3. If equipped, it may be necessary to disconnect and remove the EGR pipe to access all the starter bolts.
  4. Tag and disconnect the starter battery and control wiring at the starter.
  5. If equipped, remove the starter bracket and/or heat shield.
  6. Remove the starter-to-engine bolts.
  7. Move the starter away from the engine and down to remove from the vehicle. Some starter may be installed with shims between the starter and engine. When the starter is removed, these shims may fall out. Do not loose them.
To install:
  1. Install the starter and shims, if equipped to the engine. Align the mounting bolt holes and insert the bolts. Hand-tighten the bolts.
  2. Tighten the starter mounting bolts to 30–34 ft. lbs. (39–44 Nm).
  3. Install the starter bracket and/or heat shield, if equipped.
  4. Connect the battery and starter control electrical wires to the starter.
  5. If the EGR pipe was removed, install it.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Start the vehicle to make sure the starter functions correctly.
This is for the V6 motor--

8fdc27b.gif
6-cylinder engine starter installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  3. Label and disconnect the battery and starter control wires from the starter.
  4. If equipped, remove the starter bracket and/or heat shield.
  5. Remove the starter-to-engine mounting bolts.
  6. Lower the starter from the engine. If any shims are present, keep them for reinstallation purposes.
To install:
  1. Install the starter and shims, if equipped, to the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 30–34 ft. lbs. (39–44 Nm).
  2. Install the starter bracket and/or heat shield, if equipped.
  3. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the starter.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Start the vehicle to make sure the starter functions correctly.
