If breaker won't hold compressor is not going bad it is. A simple way to chech your breaker: Make sure breaker is off. Turn power off at outside disconnect. Disconnect the high voltage leads from the incoming at the contactor. Wire nut them. Turn the breaker back on. If it stays engaged you know its not the breaker and you confirm it is the compressor....

Your compressor could be going bad. You would need to check to amp draw on the the leads coming out of the compressor. There is a maximum rating listed on data plate. Something simple could be that your condenser the out side part of the unit is dirty. All you have to do is turn off the shut off switch out side, get a hose and some dish soap and wash the coils. Be careful with the water presssure not to bend the fins. Or some thing even a lot of techs look over is the breaker is bad.

Could this keep the air conditioner running and trip the breaker

Air conditioner may draw high current. It may trip the cirucuit breaker. You may check the current rating of the air conditioner. If it is higher than the circuit breaker rating, it surely will trip. If it is close but lower, it may trip as there may be other appliances connected.

Is there a fuse or breaker on a Panasonic CW1803SU Air Conditioner?

If there's no power up on the unit, you can check your breaker switch box to see if there's any tripped breaker switch. If so, turn it off, and turn it back on. In some cases a sub-panel is installed somewhere else to provide power to the unit. Normally that's where the breaker switch will be in that scenario. If after doing that it keeps on tripping it, or it just won't power up, then you might have some electrical components inside the unit that might be damaged, like a capacitor, or the compressor itself. Sometimes when the compressor breaks it stops turning and overheats, causing other parts to burn also. To fix this you will need to call a professional.

My Maytag Portable Air Conditioner Model #M6P09S2B keeps popping my breaker. Can you help me solve this problem?

This can because by a couple of things. An electrical fault within the AV Unit or the electrical circuit the unit is plugged into has other electric appliances on the same circuit. Thereby, overloading that one circuit. Try plugging the unit into another outlet that is on a different circuit. If it trips a circuit breaker then, the problem is within the unit. In which case, you will need to have the unit checked and serviced.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

If the unit is new then the unit may be over-sized for the electrical circuit. If the unit is not new then the compressor may be failing
