Question about Olympus Cameras

1 Answer

I have Olympus c-750> I need to shoot in jpeg format.................how do you tell if the camera is set for jpeg? I see tiff all over the place, but no way to "choose" between the two. As I understand it, the photos are to be taken in jpeg, and then "PUT IN " tiff for editing. Also, you are to use the largest resolution in jpeg................what is that, and how do you tell?? Any information will be greatly appreciate, Kathie

Are you shooting jpeg or raw? Try using a card reader instead of your camera to download.

TIFF

According to the manual, you cannot change the file type, as it only can save images in JPEG or RAW format.

You can, however save the images in RAW format, and convert them with the supplied software.

Please refer to page 80 of the user guide.

If you don't have the manual, you can download / view it here:

Image quality of the 3100z's JPEG format?

I don't think you will find any major difference in quality with Epson's 3000 or 3100 compresssion compared to Canon's. I use the 3000z and shoot in low compression giving a file size about 850k - 1000k.

Can I save images I record using an uncompressed (TIFF) format?

Yes. When displayed, an uncompressed (TIFF) digital image is clearer and higher quality than a compressed (JPEG) image. You should remember, however, that it takes longer to save an uncompressed image, which means that the recording interval between images is longer. Recording Interval with JPEG Format (Compressed):?2 seconds (3072 x 2304, Normal) Recording Interval with TIFF Format (Uncompressed):?65 seconds (3072 x 2304, TIFF) • In the TIFF Mode, you cannot record until the save operation of the previous shot is complete. • The above times are based on save operations using a Panasonic 64MB SD memory card. • The above times are approximate and for reference only. They are not guaranteed. • The actual time required to store images depends on shooting conditions and the memory card you are using.

Cannot set "HI" Mode to shoot TIFF Images

In order to shoot "HI" TIFF images first set the Image Size option to either "5M 2592x1944" or "3:2 2592x1728." Next, choose "HI" as the Image Quality option. "HI" is only available in one of the manual exposure modes (P, S, A or M) and is not available in the "Auto" shooting mode. If "HI" is selected and the camera is switched to "Auto" the Image Quality will automatically switch to "FINE" mode and a JPEG image will be recorded. Additionally, "HI" is only available in "S" Single frame Continuous shooting.
