Singer Model 5050. Needles have been bending like they're hitting the metal in the bobbin section & now the bobbin thread won't even catch. I'm guessing this is a timing issue but I'm not sure how to resove it or even adjust the needle height on this model.

I have a singer 5817c with the same problem. Can I adjust it so the needle quits hitting the metal thing under the bobbin?

Hi, actually I can help with your problem but maybe you can help me with mine. A friend gave me the same model...without the instructions. Would you be willing to give me a pdf scan or photocopy of the manual, please? Let me know at arielle.bkshlf@gmail.com. Thanks!

Needle hits the wheel under bobbin

Sounds like the toothed-belt (if there is one) jumped off timing. You can try realigning until the needle goes into the hole as the bobbin holder rotates in place. You can do this by manually slowly operating machine -- do not do with electric pedal.

Singer model 640 needle hits metal in bobbin area on downstroke

Yep, it's out of time. Take it in for service. Ask for cleaning, lubing and re-timing. Otherwise they will just time it and if it is dirty and dry... it may just fall out of time again.

Also remember you can never turn the hand wheel backwards to the way it is intended to go... that causes this issue in some machines.

WHEN TRYING TO PICK UP THE LOWER BOBBIN THREAD - HAVE NOW BROKEN TWO NEEDLES. THEY BEND AND SNAP AS IF THE MACHINE IS OUT OF SINK WITH ITSELF.MY MACHINE IS A SINGER INSPIRATION 4220 . (I DONT REALLY KNOW...

Make sure the needles are installed with the flat side facing the back of the machine.

Open the bobbin area and hand walk the needle down to see what it is hitting.

Check the bobbin case and shuttle to be sure they are in place.

Needles can also bend and break if they are too small for the thickness of the fabric.

Needle hits the plate that is over the bobbin.

If possible hoop the item. I have found that any item that has any thickness causes the presser foot to be pushed forward and the needle hits it and breaks. If you can press the item to lessen the thickness this may help. I spoke to Singer (I am a Singer dealer) and they did not have any help for this other than to recommend that the owner cut out the back of the foot. I don't think that would be a solution as it would be difficult to cut out the back of the foot and still have smooth edges, also it would cause the foot to be weak and possible break or bend. Good Luck

A bent needle will hit the metal. If it continues you will need to adjust the needle carrier. hopefully that isn't bent, but if so I don't believe that the replacement of it will be too costly.

The needle goes down into the bobbin casing and breaks off.

I don't know if this will work, but sometimes the thread in my machine gets too tight because I hold it in place with a water bottle cap, but then my needle gets pulled too far away from where it is supposed to go, and it bends and hits the bobbin plate, and then it just breaks.

I have a singer 5817c

1.Remove the machine needle plate.
2. Remove the bobbin case.
3.Insert a new needle.
4.Turn the handwheel towards you by hand, and watch the
needle going down.It should go down all the way, and start coming Up again, WITHOUT TOUCHING ANYTHING.

Check, and let me Know.
