If you disconnected it while it was reading or transferring files, then you just blew the Mp3 player's mind, in a sense

This player (and many Sansa players) have a sleep feature that kicks in fairly quickly, so this behavior MIGHT be normal

If your player is no longer working, then:
These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

When plugging in our coby mp822-4g mp3 player the welcome screen appears and says Please Wait. But it never goes past this. It seems to be frozen. Even after unplugging it nothing changes.

Hello,

When using the MP822 for the first time it should be charged for 8 hours before using.
When the player is coming up with the welcome screen while connecting to a computer, switch the player off while connected.

Connect directly to a running computer, charging the device (in the power off status) for a longer period. The USB symbol should be displayed on the player's screen.

When not being able to get the player in the off status, reset the device:
1. Disconnect your player if it is connected to a computer.
2. Use a paper clip to gently press the Reset button located on the bottom of the player.

When this was helpful I'd appreciate your vote.

My phillips GoGear SA6185/02 just freezes when i plug usb in

disconnect it. Turn it off. Then while holding the menu button plus it back in. This will make the screen go white about the splash screens. Your computer will see the hard drive and the device will not sync. Remove all the media and the data files. Plug back in and I was good to go.

Zen V Plus locked up, will not shut off

After 3 1/2 hours, the battery went dead. I waited a couple of minutes, then plugged it into my computer to see if the battery would charge. It started charging. A few hours later I went back to check on it, and it showed a full battery. I disconnected it from my computer, and turned it on. It came on, but the screen just said "Low Battery". I then plugged it back into my computer, and the screen said "Rebuilding Library". I left it for about a 1/2 hour, and it was done. I unplugged it from my computer, turned it on, and it works now!! Hope this helps out everyone else who has the same problem.

Wont show anything but white screen

hello,

try connecting the device to your computer, go to 'start' button, go to 'my computer' right click the 'removable disk' drive, click format, and follow formatting instructions. this will erase all the data on the device, disconnect mp3 player ,reset the device with reset hole on the back of the unit. reset whole actually renews the firmware on it, so it should restore the screen.

Sansa wont work

Once you have it in recovery mode, create a file called "sansa.fmt" and put in on "16mb" (Which is what your sansa shows up as in My Computer when it is in recovery mode). Once you have put the file on the "16mb" disconnect the cable and allow the device to restart unlocking it before it boots back up.

Nothing is working please help

The problem may be due to one of these :

1. The USB port on the computer may be a bit loose, which is why you are getting the message "connect/disconnect", which is the reason why you are able to find the device in the os.

2. If you are using the Yepp with mac, you are going to have to upgrade its firmware using a windows pc. yepp has compatability issues with mac.
