Updated maps for Magellan 3225

Are there free map updates available for this unit?
If so, where do I find them?
My unit has maps that are at least 2 years old & don't have the detail that other GPS units have.

I'm just now starting to use my 3225 and the map information is out of date. I see many posts that state that the map information was out of date as early as Jan 08 when I got this unit. Anyone know where to get the 3225 map updates without paying the insane $80 Majellan wants? Thanks!

it costs a fortune for updates

There is a 2008/2009 Map Update for The Maestro 3225 GPS, but you will have to pay $79.00 for them on the MagellanGPS website. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to just buy a new GPS. I've see some highly rated units for under $100 at Too bad they can't provide updates or at least at a more reasonable cost.

I need to update my info as it is 4 years old, or should i just by another,? John

If it still works why get a new one. Go to Garmin at Once your on their web page go to the top of the page and click on the My Garmin tab. Either log in with your user name and password if you don't have one then set up an account, its free. From there see what maps they have available for you but you need to know they do charge for the maps. Also they do have some free software for any updates that are available that are free. But the maps they do charge for.

I hope this helps you out if it does please give me a YES on the web page you just received my response on. Thank you

Garmin Nuvi 2 years old. consistently says i need to update maps. I have hooled it up to my computer. no clue how to update the maps

The maps on any garmin unit are only good for 1 year then new maps become available that are more up to date then you currently have in your unit. You can purchase the new maps at Garmin's web site. Here is the link:

Hello, are there no available free map updates for my Garmin nuvi 200 series?

Garmin normally allows you one free map update as long as you do so within 90 days of purchasing your GPS. Beyond that, they charge $100.00 for one years worth of map updates, or $200.00 for lifetime updates. They will also sell you specific map updates that you can choose from their web page. There are free map updates around the web. The problem with these is that they are illegal, there is not guarantee that they will work, and you will void any warranty that you have on your unit.

I recently purchased a Garmin nuvi(r) 1310(T) from Halfords in Manchester and was advised to get a "free" update after registering my unit, as it could be 1-2 years old. On checking there were no "free"...

If a new map becomes available within 60 days of the satnav first receiving a satellite signal you get it free. If you only got the satnav there may not be an update at the moment. While the satnav may have been a while in the shop Halfords keep the maps up to date. Even if there was not a free update available myMaps in myGarmin should show if there's an update which could be paid for available. If it says no update available you probably have the latest version. A new map normally comes out in November though the dates vary. Keep a check by logging into myGarmin and checking on myMaps. When the new map becomes available it should show up there. It will let you know if it's free or not.

If you want to check what year the map on your satnav is:
Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol)
Press SETTINGS (or LOCALE if your satnav doesn't have a settings icon)
Press MAPS
Press MAP INFO at the bottom of the map page

This will show what map you have and the year of the map. If your map is the latest version it would explain why there's no updates

My Tom Tom is two years old and I was told that I should upgrade the maps each year. How do I go about doing that?

The Tomtom map updates are available by subscription from Under most conditions it is not really necessary to update every year. The updates run about $40 per year. The best option on most of the small GPS units under $100 is to use it for 2-3 years and then just sell the older one and buy a new unit. The reason I say this is because the map updates only update the maps not the features or the software. The newer units will have new features and options for the same price as you would get with buying a map update your the older unit.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Are there free road info download available

No. If you want usefully updated maps, then you have to pay for them. Garmin do offer a "lifetime" maps subscription, but it's only for the lifetime of your product: given that most Garmin SatNav units don't last long enough to benefit from more than a couple of years worth of updates it's usually cheaper to buy the single update option, although the lifetime subscription gives you four updates per year and one-off is just a single annual update.

If your unit also needs updated traffic and camera alerts then it can be cheaper to buy a new satnav.

Map updates are free for units which are recently sold with the older maps and the new maps have been published, ie you just bought a unit in 2009 which still had 2008 maps on it after the 2009 maps had been released. Rather than recall all the units from the store shelves, they offer free updates on the mapping software. Continually updating the maps on 18 month old units is not free, there is an update charge. What is free from Garmin is the unit's software. Hope this clarifies your assumption.

Free map updates for Garmin c330

Garmin has released new maps. Most of their units are entitled to a free update if the unit was purchased recently Just a heads up to anyone who recently purchased a C330. According to Garmin's tech support, the map udate 2008 is not free to those of us that recently purchased a C330. Only to those who purchased a C340 and up. Their excuse is that it is a "low end" unit, and also that the memory cannot hold the full US maps on the DVD. Gee, I can purchase the update for $69.99 and load a subset of the maps if I want, according to the person in tech support, but I cannot receive it as a free update. So, apparently buyer beware if you purchase Garmin's "low end" units. You will apparently not be able to receive a free update of maps, even if the unit you buy is already out of date.

Tom Tom 910 map free update

nope im afraid you will have to cough up for the new maps (map corrections etc will only show new one way directions, and new or adjusted POIs), might be a good idea to wait till brand new maps are available before you splash any cash, good luck
