The scanner has worked fine until now. All scan previews show a large black rectangle about 4 cm from bottom of page.The black rectangle prints in scanned copies but not when printing files from the computer.

    I think I need to be a bit clearer with my problem. When I try to scan a document in preparation for copying, part of the text is obscured by a big solid rectangle of black. This problem does not occur when printing files from hard drive.

To align the cartridge from the control panel:

Please follow the steps given below:

1. Please Load a plain paper.
2. Press and hold the "Scan" button for three seconds.
3. An alignment page prints.
4. Place the alignment page onto the scanner glass.
5. Press the "Scan" button.
6. Once scanning is complete, the cartridge has been aligned for optimal print quality. Alignment must be complete before continuing with any print jobs.

How to Scan a Picture onto the Computer


turn the printer on, place the picture on the glass, on the printer under mode press the big silver button until the scan light comes on  then press select, you should hear the picture scanning, then on the computer, go under my pictures and you should see that picture.

No bottom page border


Does the bottom border show up in Print Preview? Some printers will not print the full page, to include the border if it is too close to the papers edge. If you adjust the border to be further away from the pages edge, it should print. Instead of applying a page border, you may have to draw a border using a rectangle shape and apply the desired line style.

Scaned documents have many black areas even in the preview mode.


Open up the document feeder and look for dirt on the scanner glass.

You have to replace the white tape, connecting the scanner sensor with the printer PCB. 26642b8.jpg

Scanned image only prints in black and white


it's tricky / annoying:

you have a preview ...
you have some of the (3) images checked
but also you have some of these images selected (blue outline)

now:
when you select (I don't mean the checking) an image you'll have to set the scanning params
again - or check them ...

if you select an image, and then set the params (like "color"), your scanned image will be in color

....
also resolution is the same way ..
especially after crating preview .. it'll be set to 300 Dpi
so after seecting one for scanning - check the resolution too :)

When i copy or scan with my hp deskjet f4180 it prints a black 1-cm wide vertical strip on the entire left side of the page. when i print from the computer it is fine.


first check out the your scanner glass and clean it then ckeck your scanner ccd some optical is in your scanner ccd are in sited , if it is also fine then ckeck scanner cable in these three possibilities are possible in your problem

It could be the CCD unit going out. It wouldn't hurt to see if there are some new drivers for it:

Previewing or scanning


Is the lamp on? Try uninstalling the software and re install If the lamp remains out check your connections. Try the Visoneer Web site Tech support But I feer is the lamp is out , may mean a new scanner Often the price of lamps and labor preclude repair.
