Question about Sony STR-DG800 Receiver

1 Answer

Subwoofer I can't get sound out of the subwoofer when using the RCA jack. The pass through works, so I know the subwoofer is working. I don't know if it's the jack on the receiver, the JBL Arc Sub Powered Subwoofer that is bad, or a setting on the receiver for the subwoofer.

My Mirage S10 subwoofer light comes on showing the subwoofer is on but I cannot get any bass sound to come on. How can this be resolved?

More diagnosis first. We can't assume the source is squawking bass to this thing and you don't mention that you know that to be the case. IS it? The problem could be up the food chain.

We also don't know if you're feeding it Speaker Level or Line Level.

Prove the subwoofer amp is dead or alive by jacking in any source you have that has an RCA output (Tape Out on your unnamed source, CD, TV, etc). Turn the sub volume down to minimum to start as most RCA outputs are at maximum volume. Try that to assess the amp's health. Still dead? Get it worked on.

No output to the subwoofer using the sub pre out RCA jack.

I'm assuming your subwoofer is self-amplified, otherwise it won't work with a preamp (rca) input.

Under Speaker Setup you have to have Subwoofer set to YES (page 16).

If you have good bass-capable main speakers I would recommend setting the subwoofer playback mode to LFE+Main, otherwise just LFE.

Beyond this we would need to know something more about the subwoofer and its controls.

Connect any other preamp out channel, like CDR/Tape OUT, to the sub and tune an FM station to see if the sub is capable of processing audio. A 'normal' audio signal would sound muffled but it would prove the cabling, amp and speaker at least function and point us back to setup as the culprit.

Describe your Infinity RS-12 Subwoofer parts Problem. I have a Buzzing sound, I believe that one of the RCA input jacks is bad from the use of a POS Monster Cable that was hard to plug in. Broken the RCA...

Do you know for certain it is broke?
Could you have just damaged the soldering to it. RCA jack sockets are easy to get hold of at electrical parts shops such as Maplin (UK) or Radioshack (USA) or the like... You might just need to take it out to show them at the shop.

Connect active subwoofer to Studiomaster Walkabout

You CANNOT have a stereo set of RCA jacks "wyed" into a single XLR mono input.

The RCA output drivers will "fight" each other. Some things will appear to work, but give poor performance.

You could make a rudimentary passive mixer by putting a series resistor say 1K ohms from each of the RCA's to a common UNBALANCED input of a subwoofer.

The XLR is balanced so that would not really work unless you also have an unbalanced input on the subwoofer.

The right way to do this is to get a cheap two input mixer that has EQ with it and mix your two mains before sending to the subwoofer. You want a little mixer that also has balanced outputs (XLR or TRS) to send to the subwoofer.

UNLESS the subwoofer has EQ in it, you really need to have an EQ in the little mixer so that you don't send high's to the subwoofer... They don't like highs and the sound will suffer.

Cant get bass, fuse is fine

You don't say if you've configured the Receiver to know you have a subwoofer (under Multicontrol - SUBW YES). Unless it knows about the Sub it won't send anything out that single "preout". You can get an RCA splitter to run that single output to both inputs in the Sub.

Just as an experiment, temporarily run one a pair of cables from the REC OUT to the Sub's inputs and tune an FM station to prove the Sub amplifier is alive. If it's still silent, it's dead. If there is sound (muffled) you need to go back to the Receiver to figure out why the Sub Preout is signal-starved.

No Soound on Subwoofer from Yamaha RX-V363

I have the same setup. Are you going out of the subwoofer output of the reciever? (it's purple.) then into the LFE jack of the subwoofer (also purple.) That's the only connection you need besides power. If you have those right, try using your cable for something else to make sure the cable is good. Is the indicator of the subwoofer green? Mine comes on with the reciever. Good luck!

Can't get my Accurian subwoofer to work

Sounds like you have everything hooked up properly. Make sure the outlet is providing AC power to the sub. Check the power switch on the sub.

If it is not working still; bring it back and swap it for another one before you warranty runs out.
