Question about Sharp Televison & Video

1 Answer

I bought a sharp 46" lcd hdtv, love it.When I bought it at Best Buy the told me I would need to have it calibrated after about 100 hours or about 2 months of use.I paid for the calibration and when the time came to have it done the tech that was scheduled to do it called and said that because it is a Sharp tv they do not have the ability to calibrate the Sharp through the diagnostic port on the tv.So I have not had it done.My question is do I need to have it done? or can I just get a do it yourself video and do it?

Unless you have noticed a decrease in picture quality, I would not worry. LCDs do not need routine adjustments. Best Buy may have fibbed a little. If your picture has declined, then you have an electronic parts failure and I would pursue a service call for that.

Rear projection tv trouble

Replace it. It is not worth the approx $600.00 to repair, new 46" LCD flat go for less then that. Check Costco and Best Buy have great prices. Also the color and clarity of the newer flats is far superior to any rear projection.

I bought the tv about 10 years ago and was told I would have to buy a separate "box" for HD reception. Any clues?

dc6piece,

This unit does not have a HD tuner so you would need a separate box. See Best Buy. They can help you.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Color is dark and blacks out after awhile! whats up with that

If it's anything like my rear projection TV, it may have a lamp that needs replacement. After many hours the lamp dims and needs replacement. A new lamp cost about $100 and you can replace easily by your self.

Yes, I used to work in Best Buy and one of the key things about rear projection TVs and the reason they push those service plans on you is that the tubes/colors need to be calibrated each year. You can do this yourself by checking out the following website:

Toshiba 57" HDTV no red in picture

I had the 65" version of that TV. Loved it, unfortunately it went bad as well. It sounds like the red tube went bad. The tube itself might sell for $400 plus. The installation will take several hours with the alignments which will need to be done. Then after all that you will start to have to worry about the other tubes starting to deteriorate. If there is any red in the picture then the tube is most likely the problem. At tat point I would say buy a new TV. The best bang for the buck if you want size and have the space for it would be the new Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP's. I just installed one at customers house. The 60" Mitsubishi is 1400 at Best Buy Good Luck Rob
