Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

1 Answer

Nikon D40 I am only getting technical information in my LCD--I want to restore the camera to its original settings, but even though I have the digital Field Guide, and have looked at the owner's manual, have selected "Rest" in the menu, I can't seem to get back to having my LCD display the image at which I point he camera. Thanks for any information you may provide. Huntern@genext.net

While viewing the picture press the up arrow on the arrow pad. It will scroll through the index (the one you are stuck on), highlight, histogram and then back to normal view.

How can you have the Nikon D7000 show the LCD info screen on startup?

On the D90, set Custom Setting F1 to "Both". When turning on the camera, turn the switch two notches, past the "On" position to the backlight position before releasing it. This will bring up the information screen.

On the D7000, set Custom Setting F1 to "backlight and information display". Turn the camera on the same way.

It's not quite as convenient as having the information display come up automatically, but you should be able to train yourself to turn the camera on by turning the switch all the way.

How to take a picture using display instead of view finder

I don't believe there is. Nikon call it Live View in other models, but its not mentioned in the D40 user manual.....

here's the full manual, if you'd like it.

Internal flash not firing on nikon d40

Make sure you have read your user manual and know how to use the camera, including how to use the flash.
Go to the menus set all settings to factory settings. Later you can set them the way you want. Make sure all settings are set to make the flash work when you want to use it. Some settings will turn off the flash.
If you need technical support or repair consider calling Nikon. Go to nikon.com and browse to the support section, find the repair and the toll free number. Call and see if you can get help on your camera.
Nikon has an up-grade or trade-in program for refurbished units if your repair is too expensive.

You have a short in your button board in your camera or a bad button board. Send into Nikon to repair. You can also look on Ebay for the part if your technical skills are up to self repair.

LCD display issues

According to Nikon, that was not possible. The D40 doesn't have 'Liveview' like the smaller compact cameras. You would always have to use the viewfinder for taking pictures. Even in the TV ads, everyone used the viewfinder as they took turns using the camera.

Try pressing the "info" button on the top of the camera next to the shutter button. This turns the LCD off and on to save battery life.
