If the speaker wires shorted together, it will trigger the protection circuit. If the output transistors/IC shorted out in the power amplifier section, it will also go into protection mode also.
Try disconnecting all the speaker wires to see if it will come on normal.
to have it fixed by the shop may not be worth it.

Did he check speakers and cables properly?
If it is the home theater can be a lot of things, you need to put your hands on it.
You check most stupid first, like the touch buttons , when they are faulty sometimes the volume goes suddenly down like if you press the button.
If the volume instead cut off suddenly then you may have a problem with the amp, you need to follow the diagrams in service manual, as suggested and test the board, even a condenser gone can give you this kind of troubles.
In service manual you will find diagrams indicating which zone of the board (control, amp. preamp) you have to check when you have problems with sound going down or cutting off.
