FIrst a couple of questions about the symptom:

1) Does the sound start out at the correct level and then drop off or is it always low?
2) If the sound level fluctuates, is there a pattern to when this occurs? Starts out OK, fails after a few hours? Starts out low, ends up OK after a while?
3) Do other inputs work OK with the receiver?
4) Is the output from the TV a "fixed" output or variable? (this should be marked at the output jacks.)

I'll look up the model in the meantime, but please respond to the above as it will make diagnosis much easier.
Thanks,
Dan

Follow first all the indications provided by Ekse, probably you will fix it following the procedure in his post, this will make things much easier.
Also ensure that you checked speakers and cables properly.

If it is the home theater can be a lot of things, you need to put your hands on it.
You check most stupid first, like the touch buttons , when they are faulty sometimes the volume goes suddenly down like if you press the button.
If the volume instead cut off suddenly then you may have a problem with the amp, you need to follow the diagrams in service manual, as suggested and test the board, even a condenser gone can give you this kind of troubles.
In service manual you will find diagrams indicating which zone of the board (control, amp. preamp) you have to check when you have problems with sound going down or cutting off.

heres what sony says about the problem

IMPORTANT: If the stereo receiver is connected to an AUDIO OUT jack on a television, it may be necessary to disable the built-in speakers of the television before the audio signal can be passed to the stereo receiver. In addition, it may be necessary to increase the volume level of the TV if this connection method is used. Consult the instruction manual of the television for further information.

    1. Turn on the stereo receiver.
    2. Try increasing the volume level on the stereo receiver.
    3. Check to see if the sound on the stereo receiver has been muted.
    4. If the stereo receiver has a headphone jack, make sure no headphones are connected.
    5. Try a different audio setting on the stereo receiver.
    6. Check the speaker wires to make sure they are connected securely to the stereo receiver.
    7. Try connecting different speakers to the stereo receiver.

The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.

How do i fix a noise problem on 6.1 avr 135 ?same trouble occur on alls channels,a high frequency sound disturbing listening.neither inputsi used(cd-dvd-tape)

There are many reasons this may happen, but without having the unit on the bench, it will be hard to tell. It may be oscillating, which would make that sound. The centre speaker wires have shorted when the speaker fell off our tv cabinet and now we aren't getting any sound from that output. All the others are fine.Model:HT503PH

Did you try connecting another speaker to the center channel and confirm if the Amplifier is OK or not. Because of the fall the center channel speakers itself could have been damaged and thus not giving any sound. You can take the left or right speaker and test if the amp is OK in case you do not have any other speaker.

check that the wires going into the connectors on the amp are properly stripped and then do a speaker test if speakers works on speaker test then change the accoustic settings on the amp if this does not swap the speakers cables around on amp and check if do have a faulty speaker.chance are that your accoustic settings are not set for 5.1 surround sound but for stereo this is common if your low or bass speaker is not working.

Subwoofer output no sound...

Check to see if it is properly hooked up to the player, and if it is, then either the amplifier's LFE(Low Frequency Emitter/Subwoofer) channel has failed, or the CPU is not beginning to forward frequencies 200Hz and below to the subwoofer. At 200Hz, the subwoofer adds to the satellite speakers, an then at 110Hz and below, only the subwoofer is playing.

Samsung ht-z310 home cinema no sound rear speakers

I seen the same thing when I first opened mine except my "center" speaker wan't working. It had to do with the "Mode" it was in. The Mode button at the botoom of the remote changes the speaker configuration.

There is also an option in the setup that allows you to turn on/off speakers for the system, all of mine were either Present or Small which enables them to work.

RE: RCA RT2500 Receiver

take the cable of right speaker(which is ok)and put it instead of the left cable if it is ok-your problem will be in your left speaker or its cable-if it is not working the problem in your receiver output stage.(left channel path problem)
