Hi got one of these P.C's brand new last week. Don't want Vista so installed XP with SP2. Went to the acer website here (http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/veriton_l410.html) and downloaded the 6 XP drivers and installed. However there is no sound and a yellow question mark in device manager. After hours I can find no solution. Also when I reinstall Vista it reboots and hangs forever at a black screen saying 'booting windows vista - acpi - vista loader 2.1.2'. It's not the origional, it's a Dell copy but installs fine on any other machine. I couldn't be arsed to make a backup of the installed copy as I want XP. Any ideas please?

On Acer machines it is quite possible that it will need a new cmos battery. This is a small battery that keeps the date and time settings and also various settings. This doesn't normally stop a computer from booting but acres it does. It is fairly easy to swap a battery just take the top of the computer and you should see the battery on the main board level. You will need to replace the battery with a 2032 cell battery. You can get these at most shops they are the same as car alarm batteries and some camera batteries. Unplug the power first before you take the top off. They aren't expensive so worth a go . It could be something else such as the power or the motherboard or even a usb device also stopping it but because it's windows xphone it will be due for a bartery anyway.
So you are wanting to upgrade the video card im guessing using the pci express slot. You will need go into the bios and disable the on-board graphic card and tell it to look at the pci-e slot for video boot.
I have an Acer L410 that is having the same issues. I get the power light but it will not boot. I hear that the hard drive is spinning so this is something that is good as well. Also I placed the hard drive into another Acer computer and it started up the other pc just fine. So thie is what fixed this issue. " I went out and bought a battery to replace the one on the motherboard it is a CR2032 3volt round battery that I got at Walgreens for 5 bucks. I hope this helps you out and I hope it saves others from spending too much to correct this issue. If you could please visit my channel on youtube to give thanks for my assistance, its under Kenzilla73 "
