Turn off the power, and then hold down the "stop" button on the actual system (not the remote). While you're holding down "stop," push the "eject" button on the system and it should say "unlocked." If ever for some crazy reason you might want your tray to lock again, just do the exact same thing until it says "locked."
I have this problem all the time and it's sooooo annoying. It just seems to happen randomly every now and then.
You were close, but didn't explain it very well. If you push on the 'DISPLAY' button (left side of machine as you are facing it, about half way down) when the unit is off, it will say something like "DEALER MODE", push it again to return it to regular mode. You may have to press and hold the button to get it to display 'DEALER MODE', then when everything is normal, "DEALER MODE" just goes off and isn't replaced by anything. Hope I explained it well. firstname.lastname@example.org
if the unit actually tries to open but does not, it is not locked. a locked unit does not even try to open. it sound like a mechanical misalignment. take it back to get a new one, since it's only 2 days old.
