My general electric heavy duty automatic electric dryer won't heat. Is there anything to try before replacing heater?

go to your fuse box and try replacing the 2 fuses for the dryer circuit or if you have a circuit breaker box shut off the breaker for the dryer and turn it back on and try the dryer again. I used to be an electrician and found double pole circuit breakers that have only one side tripped. alot of 220volt electric dryers use one circuit for the tumbler motor and the other circuit for the heating element

My ge dryer model DRS483ED1WW won't turn on all it does is buzz when I try. I have changed starter switch that didn't work

does the drum and motor turn by hand freely. but i think its possibly the bushes in the motor. just have a look at motor and see if theres black carbon dust on it, you will get this on a motor anyway but not in excess

Dryer gets warm and tumbles but clothes do not dry. Is there a fan assembly that is not working?

Since this is an electric dryer, if it gets warm, that usually means that the heater is working. The drum tumbles so that tells you the motor is working. Which leaves a few things. Clogged exhaust vents could cause it, and even a dirty lint trap could effect it. But on your GE I would most suspect either the thermostat that is located in the dryer blower unit ( or the blower unit itself. Now remember that the blower is driven by the motor (which also turns your drum - so the thermostat becomes the most likely suspect. It is 1315 on the parts breakdown to give you an indication of where it is located.

My dryer makes a humming noise like it is going to start but does not stay on and tumbler does not turn. I can manually turn the tumbler and it does move smoothly. No signs of any up coming problems. I...

The drum in the dryer has most likely has a belt around it that makes it turn. This belt could have broken and you hear the motor running but the drum can't turn. For more info look it up on you tube. (dryer belt replacement)

GE electric dryer not working

It sounds like your motor is failing. You went to turn it on and it hummed... The motor got hot and triggered the safety shut off. When it cools you may be able to get it to hum again. But you will need to replace the motor.
Let me know if I can help you further.

Dryer won't start spining the drum

The belt is the likely culprit, you have to look inside to see if it is the belt

Ge dryer model #DHDSR46EE1WW. Dryer will not run- just makes loud humming noise. Replaced the start switch and it still will not run at all. PLEASE HELP!

You most likely have a bad motor. Try to spin the dryer drum by hand with the door open, door swich held or taped down, and while pressing start. This will likely get the motor going. If this works try closing the door and starting it again. If it works now the motor may have just had a hard time starting do to it's position or the drum's postition. If it only works when you help it out manually you have a bad motor or maybe a sticky drum/jammed belt/etc. Good luck!
