You will have to remove the agitator
There is no other way. Not to hard to remove it though.

I have a whirlpool washing machine and the red light for clean pump is on and i have no idea where or what to do have looked for my booklet but no joy please help. Thankyou Elle

when it's in pump-out (spin), the washer DOES make sounds, there is probably something clogging the hose going to the pump. Pair of panties, children's sock, anything relatively small. This will be BEFORE the pump. You'll have to remove the cabinet from the front (easy job), remove the hose going TO the pump, and check it out.
If, when it's in pump-out (spin), the washer just has a faint hum, the pump is probably locked down (pair of panties, children's sock, anything relatively small). Replace the pump.
If, when it's in pump-out (spin), the washer is quiet, the lid switch is broken. Very common problem. Replace the lid switch.
Don't automatically think 'clog'. These washers, while relatively loud machines, are very common-sense workhorses. Clogging is rare.

This could be an out of balance condition. When its happened to my washer, I rearrange the load if its large enough, and if its not, I find other items of like weight and add them to the load and start over. Calypso's are sensitive to fabric weight, so If you're washing towels, wash only towels and wash cloths. Make sure you put small items, like bras, panties, nighties, etc., in mesh bags and combine them with other light weight fabrics.

Clothes getting sucked under agitator

I was able to find information on another web site with a Whirlpool Calypso repair manual:$FILE/8178010.pdf

Check out steps 5 and 6 on page 36:

6. Using two (2) flat bladed screwdrivers, 90°
apart, in the notches provided, separate the
dome from the outer wash plate. (Fig. 3-11)

7. Remove the six (6) 3/8” bolts securing the
outer wash plate to the universal joint.
(Fig. 3-12) Remove the outer wash plate
from the basket.

That gave me enough room to lift the outer wash plate and remove three napkins and a wash rag.

P.S. Take precautions to keep the bolts from dropping under the outer wash plate.

Have you checked the agitator? There may be sharp edges on the agitator blades. OR the towels may be getting stuck under the agitator and tub bottom. The agitator is supposed to suck the clothing down in the center and forcibly throw the clothing outwards against the tub. The cycle then repeats.
