Question about GE JGB928KEK Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Igniter Replacement I need to clean and re-seat an igniter it works intermittently. I cannot figure out how to raise/remove the cook top to do so. I know there are clips at the front and know how to release them. On all other range tops the top just raises up after you release these but this unit has sealed burners and a ceramic top.

Each burner is secured with 2 to 3 screws. It will be necessary to remove all screws on each burner in order to remove the top. USE CAUTION. Do not force the screws it they seem tight. These screws will often corrode, forcing them out could break them. The best method if tight is to move them back and forth (tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen etc. until the corrosion breaks free.

Oven ignitor intermittent spark, oven wont light, emits gas.

Gas ovens / stovetop that use gas and not electricity. These work by igniting gas and use actual flame on the the stovetop.

Newest cook top styles, such as the induction or halogen cook tops combine the same style to produce more even heating. Some of these ovens feature thermal limiters or thermostats that regulate the burner system. GAS OVENS 1)The spark igniter tip is dirty (can clean it with either a little wire brush or a piece of fine sandpaper).

2) The Pilot flame is too low, and the tip of the igniter is not in the flame good enough. (the flame acts as a circuit when it touches the tip & completes the circuit).

3) The spark module is no good and needs to be replaced.(But 1 & 2 are your best bet).
spark module does not sense the flame when it's on. The spark igniter is also the flame sensor which provides feedback to the spark module.

Make sure the igniter is properly aligned with the burner lighting holes and it is clean. All lighting holes must be clean too. You can enlarge them using a drill bit one size bigger.

If it would not fix the problem, replace the bake burner and the igniter.

There is a small chance for the spark module itself to be bad as well.
ELECTRIC OVENS:

CHECK THE OVEN RELAY CONTROL BOARD Aclicking sound could be something wrong with a relay. Check for any loose connections around the main control board on your oven. The click you hear is a relay losing power and switching back on. If the clock resets then something is causing power interruptions to the board.

Tip

KithenAid Gas Cooktop Igniter Clicking after cleaning.

I had this problem and the solution is quite simple. Remove the control knobs and shoot a good squirt of WD-40 directly down the center of the exposed control shaft. The WD-40 will penetrate the switch located at the base of the shaft and displace the water from inside the switch, which is causing the intermittant operation or clicking of the ignition. I actually disassembled my cook top to learn this fix, but don't take yours apart it's waaay too much trouble.

My cooktop igniter keeps on igniting for no reason

This problem is due to a short to wires contact on the igniter sometimes this happens after a cleaning of the cook top with water so in this case you just use hair dryer and dry out the ingniter.

Other possible reasons are over heating of the ingniter contact so you have to remove it and clean wire contacts.

Finally the igniter contacts are melt together or sometimes full of burned oil and they need to be replaced. Inginter is not expensive part.

Change the igniter on a thermos bbq

You may not have to change the igniter. It works like a spark plug (passing a small spark from an electrode (a small wire sticking from the bottom of the ceramic tube at the lower end of the igniter) to a metal plate positioned close to the tip. If the plate gets covered with soot or grease from cooking it won't work. Try cleaning the plate and bending it closer to the igniter tip. If the igniter is really bad and needs replacement, you can get a new one at most hardware stores. Installation is very easy.

My ignitor on my ge cooktop keeps clicking slowly in off mode

As it relates to 5 burner gas cooktop Model Number JGP 963SEJ1SS
First - Ignite the flame then reduce the flame to between low and medium.  If the igniter continues to click, you most likely have a contact switch issue related to the problem burner.
Unplug the cook top and turn off the gas.  After the gas is turned off, disconnect the gas line.
Remove the cook top.

Unscrew and Remove ALL of the burner bases by lifting them up.  The ceramic igniters may be difficult to remove but they will come loose if worked out slowly.
Pull of the wire connected to the igniter.
Remove to cook top top plate from the base, exposing the internal gas valves and wiring.
All of the burners are wired in parallel.   Lift off and unsnap the casing of the problem igniter switch.  The repair may require something as simple as, 1- cleaning the contact strips, or 2- slightly bending the non stationary contact strip to keep it from coming in contact with the stationary contact when in the off position, or 3- replacing the switch.
Unless you comfortable and understand how electric systems and switches work, this is a job for a qualified repair person.

Igniter keeps sparking when it is shut off

Remove each of the burner caps from the cook top and wash in warm soapy water, using a plastic scrub brush to clean any grease or film from all surfaces.

So the same with the burner seat and ignitor knob on the cooktop.

The ignitor keeps striking because it cannot sense there is a flame.

No Ignition

Dirt. Spilled oil, grease, milk etc. act as isolator and prevent contact between burner and casing (mass). You need to clean up burners, scrub all the dirt and make sure their seats are cleaned too (brass elements below burners).
