Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router
Router not picking up ip address
If you have cable internet then you need to :
* disconnect router from cable modem
* restart the cable modem (power off-on)
* restart the router (power off-on)
* connect cable modem to router WAN port using CAT5 straight cable
If problem still exist try changing the cable to new one. If it still does not work then contact your ISP

Depending on the brand of router that you're accustimed to, it would be first advisable to see if all the led lights on your router are blinking. Make sure that the WAN port and Lan ports are blinking green (sometimes green and orange mixtures) to indicate connectivity.
Next, take a look at your modem. Make sure that the led lights indicating connectivity to the internet is steady (or blinking if that's how your modem indicates connectivity). Once you can confirm that both are working fine, move on to the next set of actions. If you face a problem in these 2 initial steps, for the router issue, do what Vakhtang suggested. If it's a modem issue, shutdown modem, unplug and replug cables at both ends and then switch modem on.
Of both are working and you still cannot get an IP address, perhaps it;s to do with the link from the lan port to the computer. What i suggest is, make sure that (if you're using a linksys router) the blue (otherwise known as straight through cable) is hooked properly to the ethernet port of the computer and the router. Click on start>run>type cmd and you will come to a command prompt screen.
In it, type in ipconfig /release (with spacing) and wait for the ipaddress to be dropped. The type in ipaddress /renew. This refreshes all connection with etehrnet adapters. IF after this process you still do not get an IP address, perhaps the fault likes with your NIC (network interface card) and not the router, following which, you might have to change. However, also remeber to test your modem and your router to see if this issue canbe solved via those means. All the best.
