Hi, I had the same problem and went searching - all the feedback suggested that something may be stuck of blocking the paper path. Took the tray out, checked underneath etc - and yes - the problem was a couple of sheets of paper stuck inside. Was able to retrieve these by accessing them from the rear of the printer - and when plugged back in it started up OK!

I believe the cause here was that a print job was sent to the printer while it was also being used to copy stuff - though i cant be sure of this. Either way, it was a blockage that cased the problem.

Error code [6000] or light blinking 3 times.
1. Smearing or scratches on the LF encoder. Please clean the LF encoder.
2. Foreign material or paper debris in the LF drive. Please remove any foreign materials if encounter.
3. Check cable connection.
4. Replace LF encoder or Logic Board
.

Canon pixma MP 130/110 printer - error code 5100 comes up when trying to print. Instructions to correct are followed but same error code re-emerges

Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Printer gives an error.

maybe the paper needs to be riffled(run your fingers through it before placing it in the tray)..make certain that your paper is not offset in tray, as well..
