Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Speakers not working

Hi!
I got new speakers yesterday, when i first plugged them into my computer (i have a windows XP SP1) they didn't work. There was no Installation CD with the speakers. I went through everything (made sure t hat it was plugged in correctly, power on, that it wasn't on mute etc.) And they still didn't work. So then i tested the speakers somewhere else and they worked just fine. I also tested other speakers on my computer and they didn't work either - so the problem must lay within my computer! I've had speakers before and they work just fine on my computer, but this time they just dont!

What should i do? I've already installed the AC 97 drivers - but are there other drivers i should install for sound? How do i know what drivers to install? Also, if there is something wrong with the soundcard (which in my case is built into the motherboard, do i replace the whole mother board?)

Thank you.

    Hey!

Upping? Do you mean turning up the volume of the speakers right? If so, yes i have! I plugged them into my iPod and they work just fine. I also went through my BIOS setting and made sure that the Audio was enabled - yet no sound works :(

    :)

Oh, i'm sorry for misunderstanding! Ok, i will update to SP3. How do i update my sound driver? I know that i use AC 97 (realtek) driver - do i go their website and update to the latest version of that driver? + i'm not that much into computer lingo - so what do you mean by 5.1 and 7.1? =)

(but im guessing you mean the version of sound driver?)

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

Hi! I went to my motherboard's website and i checked the Audio drivers - there were so many of 'em! How am i meant to know which ones to install?! And I did download Windows xp SP3! I'm going to download SRS Audio Sanbox (not that i think it would help - but i can't live my life soundless!) If you have anymore suggestions - keep 'em rollin'!

    :)

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

And this is my motherboards audio website! : ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboard/driver/1stUtilities_v1.27/AUDIO/

    Which ones should/shouldn't i install?

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

Thank you for the crack! I'm not sure how to find out the name of my soundcard really but according to this program which gives you a full profile of your computer and etc - it's VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM) (or is that even the name of it?)

    :)

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

Thank you so much for giving me CORRECT driver! I've now installed it and to my devestation, it doesn't work. Is there something i should do after the installtion? Besides restarting my computer? I've uninstalled the old Realtek drivers since VIA drivers are the correct ones. Perhaps one of the audio services are on disabled? Anyway - maybe it's hopeless and i should just get a new soundcard! :(

Thanks for your help though!! Very much appriciated!!

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

PS: Everytime i click on the Vinyl icon (the newly installed sound driver on my computer) it comes up for a few secs. and then goes away. It won't let me open it!

    Anyone?

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

No, Thank you!! I think i'm going to get a cheap soundcard for the moment - to end my soundless life! I'm thinking about this one http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=...

Cus i don't really have the worlds most advanced and great speakers - so i think that would do me just right. But can i buy ANY soundcard to go with my speakers? My speakers are quite average.

And try to RMA the board? ....How would i do that? :)

    Thank you!

  • Mahawii Jun 11, 2008

Oh! RAM stands for something and means to return your product! Hahaha! :) English is not my native lingo ;)

got to your motherboard's website and download the sound driver update.
5.1 means your speaker configuration: 2 front speakers, 2 rear surround
speakers , one center and one subwoofer. 5 means 5 speakers and .1
means your subwoofer. same as the 7.1 with +2 side surround.

try to RMA the board if there is still warranty or get yourself some X-FI or soundblaster soundcard. I'm currently using Asus Commando's soundcard which is SupremeFX soundmax HD audio and a Creative Inspire 5.1 speakers and the software I gave to you SRS audio sandbox and it works perfectly. tnx for the time reading my answers and feel free to ask questions :)

Hello shashining,

I've read your "post," and I think that the best solution to the 'problem is to:
Get an "Update on the Drivers and Software.
"Most situations cannot be solve by 'pressing a couple of buttons'; sometimes
We have to go into the "Control Panel," or go to a "Website" to get updates for the computer,
"Drivers are needed for Hardware, eg, (Hard Drives, Printers, CD / DVD Players, Audio Sound, Speakers, Microphones, Mouse, Keyboards, and Webcams), to work correctly; also, some Software products."
"Upgrading the computer in any way, or added a 'new' software product?"
Causes the System Configurations, to change!
Many cases involving "Upgrades from an 'older' {Operating System, eg. XP or Vista},

to Windows 7, can cause a change in "Hardware Devices," not functioning properly;

or not to work at all !"

"These easy instructions will help you solve these issues, and hopefully, we'll be able to fix the problem the first time."

"This is what you need to do first!"
1. Click on the Website [below].
2. Enter the information required, Product Type?

Series# number? Model# number?

The {OS - Windows7 / Vista or XP} if needed?.

3.Download the Drivers
4.Turn-off the computer.
5. Disconnect the Speakers.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Install the Drivers.
8. Restart the computer again.
9. Connect the Speakers.
10. Turn on the Speakers.

"Let me know if you need more help, if it didn't fix the problem?
Post a "Comment" to get more help.
"I would appreciate it if you let me know!
Best Regards, paul7of9

Thinkpad T41 with XP-sp3: No sound / working fine until yesterday

Hi. Try plugging in an external speaker just to test the issue. It could be just the speaker of the laptop is having the problem. If you were able to hear the sound from the external speaker then the problem is the built in speaker of the computer. If there is no sound coming out to external speakers. Try to reinstall the driver of your soundcard.

Please check the cable using a multimeter. Check if the cable is broken.

Just by shifting the system, I fear if you could have an issue like this. Also check the Subwoofer box if its working or not. Good Luck.

what happens when you plug the speakers in the green port? You might want to try the other audio ports because on a few new computers i have seen the speakers have to be plugged in a different hole. also make sure the speakers are plugged up to the electric plug.

How can I get my Harman Kardon Soundsticks 1 to work on my PC?

The USB version of the soundsticks was specifically designed for the mac and they worked just by plugging them in and then telling the system to use them instead of the analogue outputs. Unless someone has produced drivers for Windows XP for these speakers I think that you will probably not be able to use them.

I have logitech x 230 speakers. When i use my old computer i just plug them in and they work. i installed an additional OS to my old computer; windows xp professional. The speakers were not even recog

You may need to install the audio drivers for those systems. If the sound is built onto the mainboard, you'll need the motherboard model number to help locate the drivers online. You can look for them yourself through a search engine, or if you'd like, get back to me with the model numbers of the motherboards, and I will locate your drivers. The model number of the motherboard should be printed directly on the motherboard itself.

Will my boston accoustics ba735 speakers work with a dell laptop?

We also have a Gateway Computer purchased in 2001 with the Boston Digitanl BA735 speakers. We ran into a similar problem when we upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP, with no sound after the upgrade. After consulting with computer stores and "Geek Squad", it was finally determined that Windows XP set the speakers for analog not digital. Once that was reset, our sound returned. Hope this works for you.
