Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TR517 Camcorder

1 Answer

Playback problem Mine is a Sony CCD-TRV68 NTSC.  Hope you can still help.  When trying to playback tapes, with PLAYER selected on the POWER switch, I get no picture (either connected to a monitor, or on the camera itself) in "Play" mode.  But, when I press FF, or REW, I can see the picture on either screen.

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37 8mm Analog... 2 Problems, maybe more unknown at this time:

This does require disassembly to remedy the problem. There are various possible fixes. The most prevelant I have seen is cold solder connections of the board connector for the fpc cable from the top operation switch block ass'y. All you need is someone who can handle this task, like a professional. The controls that you are experiencing problems with are all linked with one cable and connector. One bad solder joint can cause serveral operation faults. Good Luck, magic seadog

I have an older camcorder that hasn't been used in a while. When I went to try to view the tapes made on the camera, I just get a blue screen with a white play arrow. The tape is moving inside though. It...

The video drum inside the tape mechanism consists of two sets of heads. One set for recording and one for playback. It's possible the playback heads are damaged, in which case the video drum will need to be replaced. It's also possible the video drum may simply be oxidized in and the camera only needs servicing and the drum deoxidized. I don't reccomend using "cleanning tapes" as they can sometimes do more harm thab good although you try. You might get lucky and this will solve your problem.

Rolling of picture

Hi,
You camera is PAL and you are attaching with Ntsc TV or VCR. Both Pal and Ntsc are different systems and incompatible to each other.
If you want to see correct playback of your Camera, it requires Pal or Multi-System color TV.
Need further info, please let me know.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
good luck

How old is your camera? First try by inserting old cassettes and see if they are working, which you have seen before.See to it that problem comes in newly recorded or with old recordings also, and let me know,I will try my best to guide you.
