Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

3 Answers

Canon MP830 Out of the blue, my Canon MP830 started telling me that I had two cartridges of the same color installed which is not the case. After taking it out and reinstalling it, it started telling me that the cartridge is not recognized. I have tried unplugging the copier - rebooting the computer all to no avail. I saw where someone else bought all new cartridges and installed them after having this problem but it did not solve the problem. I can not scan or copy now because the machine won't allow me to ignore/ proceed before solving the "problem". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LCD "ERROR UO71 ...more than one ink tank of the following color is installed." In my case, Cyan.

All the following failed to solve the problem: "simply" opening and closing the tray, turning off and on the printer and computer, ...rebooting, restarting, pulling the ink tanks out ..carefully placing them back in, w/ special attention to appropriate spots, ...etc, etc, ...reading the instructions, which is "over-the-top", i.e. ...monumental troubleshooting, for me! Anyway, on and on ...nothing worked!!

I did happen on to this sight FixYa! I read the "best" solution about

"simply opening the main tray and closing it again restarts the ink test after which in most times the problem is solved. If after two tries the error message is still present I remove and replace the related ink cartridges. By now I could remove the error message in each case."

Which did lead me to the issue of "Quality Control" on the ink tank contacts (mentioned by someone else on FixYa).

My SUCCESSFUL SOLUTION;

  1. I TOOK THE CYAN INK TANK OUT ...AGAIN!
  2. I, CAREFULLY, SPRAYED A SMALL AMOUNT OF "SUPERWASH - FAST DRY, ZERO RESIDUE, NON-CONDUCTIVE - CLEANER DEGREASER" on the CYAN TANK CONTACTS.
  3. Then, I performed a good AIR CAN SPRAY to BOTH THE TANK AND the PRINTER RECEPTACLE CONTACTS.
  4. I then REPLACED THE CYAN INK TANK, IN THE CORRECT SPOT.
  5. I CROSSED MY FINGERS and CURSED WITH GREAT ANIMOSITY, under my breath of course, saying something like "...this better F#^&*ing WORK!!" (I believe this step was probably THE most crucial, do not leave it out! )
  6. I CLOSED THE TRAY
  7. PUSHED the "STOP/RESET" BUTTON ...why? Who knows?
  8. Then ...BINGO!!! SUCCESS ...PROBLEM SOLVED!!
Moral of the story:
  • I COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT FixYa!
  • The SOLUTIONS INPUT OF AT LEAST TWO OTHER CONTRIBUTORS WAS KEY!
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY; INK TANK AND PRINTER RECEPTACLE CONTACTS, CAN BE FICKLE AND UNRELIABLE, THEY MAY NEED CAREFUL CLEANING AND RESEATING, UPON INK TANK REPLACEMENT!
Thank you for allowing me to be of humble service!

No formal "thank you's" are necessary.

The new replacement tank continues in the same manner. However now it WILL NOT reset after repeated attempts. I shall try a third tank and if the malfunction continues I shall become aggressive withCanon. D.D.
This is not a solution only a further comment. I replaced the Canon with another brand . However before trashing it I tried a third tank. This tank brought the machine back to life and sixty days later it is functioning without problems. My guess would be extremely poor quality control on the circuits on the tanks. Their attempts to maximize profits on the ink has damaged the reliability of the machines. I do not know if it is possible but before replacing this printer check to see if any are available without chip circuitry on the tanks. Good luck D.D.

From time to time my MP830 shows the same problem ... just opening the main tray and closing it again restarts the ink test after which in most times the problem is solved.
If after two tries the error message is still present I remove and replace the related ink cartridges.
By now I could remove the error message in each case

Canon mp830 printing pinkish instead of blue

Hi

You have stick residue in the print head. Just run the print nozzle for 2-3 times to get the correct color.

Also, be sure that all ink cartridges are full because if one of the color is empty, you cannot achieve the correct color when one ink color is missing.

Please let me know if you need more help

You must format your system to resolve the matter. There is a script running on your system that conflicting with colour interpretation. So long as you have changed cartridges and the problem persists, you must format to correct the problem.

Have replaced cartridge with one of my refilled cartridges in a canon PIXMA MP830, and am getting an alarm U071,that reads "more than one ink tank of the following color is installed". This is of course...

Printers have a mechanism to detect refilled cartridges. By default it does not accept refilled ones. But there's a work around. Have a set of two (preferably 3) cartridges , refill and cycle them. This way the printer wont be able to detect that you have inserted a refilled cartridge.

Won't let me print and it says U071

That error is from a defective ink cartridge, if all are installed correctly. Most often I've found the 5BK cartridge to be defective. If the store won't exchange it you might call Canon at 1-800 OK canon

Pixma MP830 is printing things green that should be red

when you change all new cartridges (make sure all cartridge ok, and the cartridge pins connection ok) still red color lost, it is the trouble at print head ink chanel some of that is too dry for longer time less using , most CANON printer head is separated from the ink cartridge, two way you may try:
1) take out the ink cartridge, drop down a little the special cleaner (best clean tools buy from dealer), to the head ink chanel hole, then set back the ink cartridge and waiting minutes
2) try put the print head bottom surface touch a little cleaner or water 1-2 hrs, if you can take out the print head unit. still not fixed for some case that should change the print head unit.

Printing Cartridge error

Hi,

I've seen this problem before and it turned out to be a faulty chip on the cartridge as opposed to a problem with the printer. Canon should replace the cartridge free of charge if this happens.

Aligning the cartridge has nothing to do with the problem of the u150 error that two of the same ink tank cartridges are installed. It's a defective chip in the ink cartridge, as soon as I placed a new cartridge in it worked like a charm. HOLD ON TO YOUR INK CARTRIDGE RECEIPTS, because if this happens to you and the cartridge is obviously new....the store of purchase should provide you with a replacement (+ if you don't want to make a 2nd trip, some stores have the mp830 on display and you can have them toss the cartridge in and check to make sure the chip is working properly). IF THE STORE WON'T REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE CARTRIDGE, contact CANON (USA 1-800-828-4040)and explain the problem & hopefully the will stand behind their product and replace the defective cartridge.
