i have a situation where in I have a sharp aquos model px5m and I am connecting my psp slim and lite using the component cable, the picture quality is fine, however, if sound is played, i get a ripple or horizontal lines reverberating on the screen everytime sound comes out,.
any ideas how this can be fixed? is the cable not compatible at all or any setting i should change?

The cable is contaminated, try using another cable.
now i believe there are two red cables on the component cable two jacks for audio and three for video
check those two red jacks and see if they aren't mixed.

These are the following steps on how you can connect your PSP to a laptop:
1. Using the USB cable connect PSP to your laptop. Just make sure that both ends are properly connected.
2. Once connected, On your PSP look for SETTING. After selecting it, choose USB CONNECTION.
3. Afterwards your PC will start to detect and will soon recognize your PSP. Laptop will prompt the drive for your PSP (ex.drive F:).
4. Just double click on the specific drive for your PSP. From then on, you can start transferring files or anything you wanted to do.

The AV Cables support photos, videos (includingUMD movies), and music. However, output of games are only supported by PSP-3001.
It sounds like you need a new LCD screen. That should fix the problem. They are very easy to install, just make sure you get a SHARP brand, and also be sure to get it for the right model. Currently three different types of LCD screens, one for PSP 1000 (original fat) models, one for PSP Slim (2000) series, and Slim 3000 series. They run about $50-$75 but should fix your problem. Hey it's cheaper than buying a new PSP right?
