Question about RCA Universal Remote Control

1 Answer

My new universal remote

Someone just gave me a TV - works really well (better than my old one) except it did not have a remote........So I bought a universal RCA one at Canadian Tire. I programmed it to the TV and now want to watch DVD movie with it but it does not have the input button I need to switch it to watch the movie. So I programmed the DVD with it too - I programmed it alright, the movie comes on the player but with no input, I cannot see the movie only hear it. Any suggestions? The TV is a Sanyo, 27 inch about maybe 8 years old.
Thanks, Jo

Jo have you plugged in the Audio and Video cable in correctly. You need to check that the Video cable is in the corresponding input on the TV

Some universal remotes are not really universal. Some functions of your device may not work.

Without looking further you may need the Factory remote not all functions may be accessable using a "Universal" Ha,Ha,Ha remote. These Universal remotes have been problems in my line of work for years,Best idea is when you get a new tv pick up a cheap basic functions remote & use it for everday normal Vol./Channel/Power et. & keep the orig.for things the universal won't do

Universal remote

I would suggest that first you state WHICH Universal Remote you bought. They work in different ways and I am sure SOMEONE can help if they first know the make and model of yours.

Co-incidentally I have JUST returned from helping a neighbour with a Kameleon URC8305. I have one and it happily controls my now old Sony TV and even controlled HIS much more recent Sony.
As I understand the different makes of universal remotes work in different ways so - unless it is a URC one I can't help

Where did you find it? what site & can you give the part# of thee remote, so that I can do the same?

I had this problem on a symphonic 27 inch TV I just bought from a friend who no longer had a remote. The thing with the menu and buttons on the front of the TV doesn't actually change the TV to true game mode. I don't know what it acutally does, but it isn't really in game mode. When it is in true game mode you can't change the channels until you turn the "game mode" off. What I did was bought a universal remote (a specific one that someone told me about) for 8 bucks at walmart and I was then able to switch to game mode with the Input select on the remote. The remote I bought that actually worked is this one: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Magnavox-PM435S-4-Device-Universal/dp/B00006686A/ref=acc_glance_ce_ai_-2_1_tit/002-3174824-8273629
Make sure you look at it before you buy it and make sure it has a button that specifically says "input" on it. I know that some of the universal remotes don't have an input select button or one that doesn't work. As long as you get a Philips-Magnavox that has that button, you should be ok. Much better solution that paying 30 bucks for a new remote specifically for the TV. Hope this helps.
