In most cases refrigerants Can only be purchased by a certified technician. If your unit needs (gas) it has a leak which must be found and repaired. Refrigerating systems are a sealed system and if they require recharging there is a leak in the sealed system.

Not cooling room and every 45 seconds it makes a hum noise

window unit ac !! not a fridge . the hum you hear is the ac compressor trying to come on , but due to loss of gas charge it shuts right off again , this will require a professional ac repairman to fix this , 1st he needs to find leak then repair leak then add back lost gas charge , watch cost of all these services vs cost of entire new unit , it could get expensive

My 2003 VW Convertble AC unit is not blowing air as cold as it used to. The AC unit is working

Most likely yes it does need to be re-charged with refrigerant gas as this gas can leak over a long period of time
Many garages can re-charge the system for you

AC vents not working

Does this vehicle have one AC unit in the front or two units one in the back and one in the front ?,if two units then the gas content is low as a two unit vehicle should hold at least 1.5 kgs if this drops over time due to leaks then only the front unit will work

AC unit is not blowing cold air

It may not be air con gas but a failed AC compressor.

If the AC gas does need to be added this is NOT a DIY job. You will need to take the car to an auto AC specialist to have it carried out.

I wanna knw dat after how many months should split ac gas be topup? I also wanna knw dat what is d cost of split ac gas?

If the unit was charged correctly in the beginning and you have no leaks in the system - the refrigerant will reman good for the entire life of the AC and it's component parts. In other words, without a leak, the refrigerant will not wear out - or ever need replacing - and you will never need to add any.
Right now the average 'wholesale' cost of AC refrigerant (for residential units) is about $6 per pound.
Retail cost will vary depending on the service company providing the refrigerant - but you can figure somewhere around $12 - $15 per pound. The retail cost includes the tech putting it in for you and making sure the AC unit is correctly charged and that the reason for the need to add refrigerant has been fixed, i.e. a leak that had to be repaired.
hope this helps.

What gas should I add to the portable air conditioning unit ?

First of all, you don't add "gas" to any AC unit. You add "refrigerant" i.e. freon because AC units (as is ALL cooling) devices run a refrigerant cycle. If you have to ask this question, you shouldn't be adding refrigerant to the AC. Seriously, there are EPA regulations that make it illegal for anyone to knowingly release refrigerant into the atmosphere, and you might be a good candidate for doing so. The fine is something like $200,000 per day per incident. But if you are adamant on doing so, you'll need some expensive tools to evacuate the refrigerant that's currently in the unit and replace it with something like R-134a. The AC should have documentation (if not written on the unit) on what type of refrigerant is is currently using. If you have to "add" refrigerant to it, that may mean that it is leaking; if it's leaking, you'll need to find and fix the leak first, or you'll be violating EPA regulations.
