Singer fantasia II problem

My sewing machine won't sew forward, only backward. What is wrong?

I tried to spin the machine in the reverse way manually, sprayed WD-40 on all parts and now it's working just fine!!! I don't know if this is only coincidence or if what I did helped in a way. I concentrated on lubricating the reverse lever though. Thanks!

Here's the actual problem. There's an adjustment behind the right panel that's not set properly.

To adjust it properly you need to remove the panel. To remove the panel you want to remove the bottom knob (just pull) it comes off easy (it's made to remove). Shut the machine off and raise the foot. Once that knob is off, put two fingers in the hole where the knob was and pull the side off. There aren't any screws to remove, to get the panel off. Once that is off, there are 3 allen (5/32) adjustments. It's the one in the middle that controls the reverse lever.

Adjust the allen (5/32) plug out as far as it can. Don't let it fall out and into the machine. Put your finger behind the adjustment and don't let it fall out. Use common sense. The machine shouldn't work with this course of an adjustment, but it's a starting point. Try the machine. It may just make noise and not sew. Adjust the screw in, two turns. Try again. It worked for us after 3 turns.

To put the panel back on, set the bottom tabs first, then bend the panel into place.

I know it stinks. You could always return it, but if you need to sew now. It'll let you sew now.

Check the reverse lever.
Most probably it's stucked in, the last time you used it.

My machine will not sew in the forward position...It keeps sewing backwards like it is in reverse.....Need help ASAP

All sewing machines have a gear lever. This is so you can sew a seam forwards and backwards. Consult your manual.

Machine will only sew in reverse

You wrote,
"Machine will only sew in reverse - Sewing Machines" A: I'm just a tinkerer, hobbyist, who did run across this same problem before. I can give a general non-model specific remedy based on my limited experience with mechanical sewing machines that get locked into sewing backwards, that is "they only want to sew in Reverse":

1. Verify what is the normal direction of the fly wheel in forward sewing for your machine. Most sewing machines, including Singers, always sew with the top of the flywheel moving toward the operator, regardless if sewing forward or backwards; but older friction-wheel White Rotary (RF) sewing machines, have the flywheel running in the opposite direction (top of Hand-Wheel turning away from the operator when sewing.

2. If it has Reverse Lever/Switch; check that it is in the correct position; if still only sews in reverse, change positions of the Direction Control lever (or Button, etc.), and see if it changes direction to correct the problem.

3. If this does not help, then jiggle the Reverse Lever and follow the linkage inside the machine and see if there is anything broken, loose or out of adjustment. Some machines have reverse control linkage elbows in the top part of machine, and by poor design are prone to accidentally pop backwards, causing sewing in the opposite direction of the position of the Reverse Lever/Button (Backwards when you want to sew Forward). On occasion, a Kenmore 158.1787180 got locked into the backwards sewing mode (the dog-gone' est thing), but by following and analyzing the linkage, I found where it was going wrong, and popped the indecisive linkage elbow back the way it was supposed to be and fixed it. [ I had more detailed notes, on this fix, but when I read them, without the machine in front of me, made no sense to me today so I can't share that till I revisit the conundrum again.]

4. If all else fails, you may be able to hold or clamp the Reverse Lever/Button in the Reverse position, so it sews Forward (I've done this before too (as a short-term fix) until I figured out how to adjust it back the way it was supposed to be.

5. If this post helped you, don't be afraid to indicate so, so Fixya will know. If it was useless, "ouch", but I'd like to know that too, so I'll be more selective on what I really know more about. I try to help, though this is probably a trade secret that anyone who knows is discrete about who they share the information with.
Sincerely

The Feeder Dogs are not moving forward or backwards on my sewing machine.

Are the Feed Dogs dropped? Check your manual for the location of the switch. .... otherwise your mechanism has been compromised. Take it in for repair.

Sewing backwards

try adjusting the top thread tension for the loops
try changing the needle
and see if that help any if not then take the machine back and
tell them what the machine is doing
if the machine was adjusted, then they should have checked the
stitches to make sure that the stitches were normal both forward
and backwards.

I have a Janome 8080 that is out of warranty by a month and days. I went to use it and my handwheel will not let me move it backwards. It is not giving me a code that anything is wrong. I can't reach...

You should always move the handwheel forward. On some machines moving it backwards can throw off the timing. Try reverse and doing a couple of stitches to test.
