Hi, i have a emachines T3104 desktop with win7 every now and then at random times my screen (lcd) goes black with 2 lines running vertically on the right side and the computer stops responding. Please help, i just bought this computer used for my wife as a gift from a friend. Thanks,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........
ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Vertical lines in the display indicate a failing screen. New screens are expensive and not worth the labor and parts charges to repair it. It's new monitor time.
I had the screen problem, simplest fix, that I found was to simply hit the camera button on the side of the phone when it is turned on. It somehow resets the screen. It works most of the time on the first time.
For doing a system recovery on E-machine you have to press F11 number of times at the very first boot screen then follow the procedure, and it will restore your computer back to the factory settings. This option is available in new computers only. (2-3 years old)
tricky!! oh hi im Dyanne.. a totally unresponsive black screen can be th result of failure of th LCD or LCD inverter.( a specialized piece of electronics that energize th screen) to rule out th failure of th video display adapter or circuitry, try plugging in an external monitor..a standard pc monitor.. attached direct to th lappy. if it works, (as i susopect) th motherboard and video display are both working ok and its th LCD which is at fault. this can sometimes be repaired by a competent specialist. good luck xx
Sounds like a problem with the LCD assembly or cable. You may want to reseat the LCD cable at the LCD end. It could be a loose internal connector in the LCD assembly. Ron-
