Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra 60 GB - can't reload OS 'coz device is not recognized

Hi there!
I've had the Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra 60 GB for a while and it worked fine until about 2 years ago when the headphone socket went.
I still used it via USB and it worked fine until the day it "lost" it's library. Instead of ca. 4000 Songs there were only 1500 left. Then finally it reformatted itself when I turned it on on day. I did not do it - the Jukebox did it all by itself... So now I have a reformatted MP3 Player with NO OS on it that is NOT recognized under ANY Windows OS - wait! it actually recognizes 20 MB... the rest of the 60 GB are somehow "lost".
My question:
Is it fixable?
Is there a way of fixing it through MAC (I work on MAC now)?
Can I send it in somewhere to get it fixed here in Vienna/Austria?

I was trying to find out if there is a technical service that repairs CREATIVE stuff here in Vienna but didn't have any luck
I will be in USA for three weeks in August...

HElp me PLEASE.
Sincerely
Kai HEnry

same as described in other threads. the machine reset itself, lost the data. Te is is non-existent but windows recognizes 20mb. cannot reinstall firmware because the install program won't recognize the machine- ****- Creative will not help

Same issue here, my machine worked fine over the last four years and I decided to just install the only two available firmware updates on the Creative website. Now all my music has been deleted and it is not being acknowledged by the by either XP or Mediasource Organizer (or any Creative software).

This happened so quicky and without warning I was astounded. And the fact that Creative no longer offers any support for this machine makes these updates outright sabotage of their own product, likely in the hopes you'll buy a new one.

    Please help.

I had exactly this problem. One day I had 55Gb of music, I used the Jukebox software to delete some stuff and the Zen went bananas! Next thing I know I only have 16Gb of space.
What you need to do is get to the operating system. To do this I think you have press Play and On/Off at the same time. You should get a little menu. One of the options is to re-build the library. Do this, but be warned it should take quite some time (over an hour, not sure as I left mine and went to lunch). If it takes a few minutes it has not done this properly.

Once this has run you should get MOST (I did not get all) your old music back. There are some other options but I cannot remember what they are!

Fortunately for me I was lucky and I had backed up my player about a week before!

Hope this helps

When it the zen is turned on it says firmware

Had the same problem and nearly went nuts trying to fix it. Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall all creative driver & creative software.
2. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 (Rolled back to WMP 10) and restarted PC.
3. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 Runtime and restarted PC.
4. Downloaded and Installed the latest free version of Winamp from http://www.winamp.com
5. Connected my A/C Power Cord to my Nomad Jukebox then connected my Nomad Jukebox via USB cable to the Computer.

The computer should then recognize the Nomad Jukebox as "Found New Hardware" then "MTP Device" and lastly "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.

6. If you haven't already, go to the creative website and download the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03 and save it to your computer.
7. Run the Firmware (Make sure Nomad Jukebox is connected) and at this point the Computer should recognize the Nomad Jukebox and begin the upgrade.

After your upgrade is complete, You can go ahead and re-download Windows Media Player 11 and it will recognize the Nomad Jukebox. Not sure what version of windows you have, but I have two computers, one with windows xp and the other has windows 7 and Im able to transfer music perfectly fine with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer on both computers. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

Creative Labs Nomad Zen Extra Jukebox 30 GB not working

Uninstall everything from your PC, reboot, reinstall driver and the Explorer (I do not use MediaSource, only the Explorer).

If it didn't work out follow these steps:

1. Uninstall Creative Media Source and all related software.
2. Install the driver. In the installation CD the driver is usually in \Drivers\English
3. Turn on the Nomad an connect it to the PC.
4. Install MediaSource(the program requires that you have the nomad connected while installing)
5. Install MediaSource plugin
6. Try transferring files.

If you?re still running into problem know that there are other programs capable of handling MediaSource?s functions, such as - Portable Audio Devices Power Toy , NomadSync, Real player, and there?s also a Zen plugin for the Winamp.

Good luck!

Player not recognized by any OS...

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard

oh, wait -Mac- no, sorry -out of luck

Creative zen

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.
What I did?
1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
3. Restart the computer
4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.
And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.
Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....
