I have the same "freezing" problem!

the freezing issue could stem from these problems:

corrpupt/bad software on HardDrive for operating system

bad drivers for the unit

motherboard overheating

lets start off with a few things. first tap f8 select safe mode. see if you get the freezing up issue then.
if you dont, then its a driver related issue:

for driver related issues, go to HP.com and download any available updates to your software (bluetooth, wireless, video card, and so on) including the bios flash update. you will more than likely have to get these updates by booting into f8 selecting safemode with networking to get access to the internet.

If the machine freezes up still , then its either a corrupt O.S./bad hard drive or overheating issue with motherboard.

to determine the issue reboot the machine after it freezes, go f8 for safe mode boot w/networking and do this:

go to hp.com and download all the updates for the driver software and bios (bios is very important) there have been some updates to these areas for issue related to motherboard problems. after you install all the updates select to not Restart computer yet (which it will ask after video driver updates and so on) now go to my computer, right click it, select properties and in the tools tab select the disk check option. from there check both boxes and then restart machine.

what this will do is check the disk for errors and bad clusters, and load the correct new/updated drivers, when its done it will restart and by then have moved bad areas to new places. if it freezes up during this process the drive may have hit a snag and you need to replace the hard drive.

if you continue to get this problem after all this, i suggest seeking professional assistance for motherboard overheating issues. i have fixed those problems by applying new thermal paste to the heatsink fan assembly and adding it to the GPU chip also. but in some cases i had to reball/reflow the GPU chip, which runs 80-140 depending on where you go. ebay has a few good vendors that do this.

Good Luck! I know its alot, but that should eliminate the majority of issues

Updated bios problem on a780gm-a

I think you had a bad flash!

So re-download a new bios file from there web site and try again, with these instructions....

Updating the BIOS
You can download and install updated BIOS for this motherboard from the
manufacturer’s Web site. New BIOS provides support for new peripherals, improvements
in performance, or fixes for known bugs. Install new BIOS as follows:

1 If your motherboard has a BIOS protection jumper, change the setting to
allow BIOS flashing.

2 If your motherboard has an item called Firmware Write Protect in Advanced
BIOS features, disable it. (Firmware Write Protect prevents
BIOS from being overwritten.)

3 Create a bootable system disk. (Refer to Windows online help for
information on creating a bootable system disk.)

4 Download the Flash Utility and new BIOS file from the manufacturer’s
Web site. Copy these files to the system diskette you created in Step 3.

5 Turn off your computer and insert the system diskette in your computer’s
diskette drive. (You might need to run the Setup Utility and change the
boot priority items on the Advanced BIOS Features Setup page, to
force your computer to boot from the floppy diskette drive first.)

6 At the A:\ prompt, type the Flash Utility program name and the file name
of the new bios and then press <Enter>. Example: AMINF340.EXE
040706.ROM

7 When the installation is complete, remove the floppy diskette from the
diskette drive and restart your computer. If your motherboard has a
Flash BIOS jumper, reset the jumper to protect the newly installed BIOS
from being overwritten. The computer will restart automatically.

Hope This helps

Have a nice day!

I have an acer laptop with window vista and my sims game keeps freezing everytime i click on a family to play and everytime i try to creat a new person it keeps freezing. What can i do?

I would see if there is an updated driver for your video card; check the driver version and date on the Acer Support Website. And there is a possible glitch in the game and there might be a update for it as well. Here are a few patches I found for the Sims 2 game...
