Time to change the power supply. compaq supplied their units with a cheap power supply rated at 250 watts. another thing is to remove the side plate, locate your main chip. release the two side clips and carefully remove the heat sink. blow out the aluminum heat sink. dust/**** gets caught on the fins and the thermostat for the cpu shuts down the system because of an overheated condition. try www dot affordabesurplus dot com for a replacement power supply. the new one will be rated 300 watts or more.

my wife has a presario sr1503wm machine. once in a while the system boots up and just sits at the compaq red screen. what you need to do is just pull the plug, wait 20 seconds, plug it back in and reboot the machine. it'll then start up - go to the compaq red screen, screen goes out and comes back with the normal desktop. if this all fails - invest in a new power supply.

Do a full reset. Press power button down until computer shuts down, this will take more than 5 seconds. After that you can perform clean boot.

Acer x3400 wont start up

Remove the Power Cord and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in and press the power button. If it reboots you had a Static Charge Buildup and released it by holding the power button for 30 seconds.

When you press the power button do you hear the fan running, disk drives running, cd drive clicks once, anything on the lcd screen? If not I would think your Power Supply is bad and needs to be replaced.

It's either the Power Supply or Motherboard.

I have no idea what is causing this problem, but i don't seem to be able to use standby mode or hibernate mode on my emachines system. I can choose the option to put the system into standby or hibernate...

Start your machine and enter bios setup by pressing the DEL key at the Emachine logo, but before windows startup. Find the option to restore factory defaults and then exit or escape and select save changes. After restarting and windows starts, if this is something recent, you might fix this if the bios reste doesn't work, byt doing a restore to an earlier system checkpoint. Also check your power settings. Right click on your desktop away from any icons and ct properties in WINXP or personalize in Vista. Click the button labled Power under the screensaver tab. Check the power standby settings and set them according to your preferences. Hopefully these will correct the problem. If so, please don't forget to provide a rating. Anything less than four thumbs up is negative towards an overall rating by the way and means your problem was not resolved, but rate this (or not) accordingly. Good luck!

Compaq Presario wont start.

It might be the motherboard that needs to be replaced or the power button.

THe pc gives a steady orange light when power

Sounds like its in either standby or hibernate. Try unplugging it if it wont power on, press the power button, wait for 2 minutes then plugging it back in then turn it on. Afterwards, go into power managment, and find where it asks what do when you press your power button change from hibernate/standby to ask what to do.

Monitor keeps hibernating, can't make it stop, pixel issue.

Hey,

I think this is more of a problem on your computer instead of the monitor, ofcourse you could try another monitor and see if the same happens. I suspect your computer goes into standby or hibernation on its own, and it does work fine if you reset the computer right?

if you go into power management again, disable or turn off hibernation completely, its on one of the pages.
Make sure its not set to standby, and also disable your screen saver.

Right click on desktop - properties - then screensaver. turn it to none.

Also you could look into the computer bios and make sure its not set to standby or hibernation from there. thats unlikely but you could check.

how to get into bios.. depends on the computer, right when you turn it on, on one of the corners of the screen you will get a message, press button to enter setup or bios. press that to enter bios when its presented.

look around the bios and poweroptions.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

Sounds like the pc power supply is bad... U can replace it, but if supply went out it may have damaged the motherboard. In future, have monitor blank off automaticlly and install UPS to supply pc. HP has histroy of weak power supplies.
