Smart media card

My camera informs me that the card needs initialising. Solutions suggested that it needs reformatting. How do I do this - I have a card reader as part of my Epson RX620 printer.

in playback mode on the camera (green arrow on selector switch - or middle option if the legend has worn off) press

menu/ok -> select format -> menu/ok ->menu/ok to confirm

Any pictures on the card will be lost
