My canon ip90 will not print black ink any more. It started going and a white streak seemed to be going through all the black. I've cleaned the nozzles and printer heads so many times that now no black prints all now. I've replaced the ink but it seems totally blocked. Also when looking inside the printer there seems to be some loose black ink on the right side. Can you help me?
You may be able to save the unit by cleaning with a qtip and some Fedron. Fedron is designed to clean platens and parts in printers and typewriters (it's original use). You can do a search on the web for locations that carry Fedron. Be extremely careful around any plastic parts becasue Fedron will eat/melt most plastics.

There's a small switch under where the ink tank goes on the left side of the carriage. You have to make sure you install the right side of the ink first, under the lip, and then press down the left side. When the switch goes bad, you need a new carriage which means you get a new print engine. Costs as much as a new printer.
Hi Karen - it might be that you need some time to let the ink absorb into the pads in the print heads - this can take between a few hours and a day according to reports i found on this site, Must be frustrating to deep clean three times and just seem that you are wasting ink cartridges, my "solution" would be to give it time or possibly clean the print heads manually - there are some great tips in the forum posts for this.
Hope you problem sorts itself out soon - take care
There is a very easy fix for a Canon IP90 not printing either color or black. I just fixed mine a few minutes ago. Go to the local Dollar store and buy some nail polish remover. Then open up the printer, remove the ink cartridge(s) and put a few drops of nail polish remover in the hole that receives the ink. Works like a charm and fixed mine in just minutes. After inserting the polish remover (actually just Acetone with some glycerin) reinsert the ink cartridge and do a deep clean using the Canon utility from the Control Panel under "Printers > Properties > Maintenance (right click on the Printer icon in Control Panel to start)." You can also simply use acetone. Another trick is to remove the print head which holds the ink cartridges (although I could not figure out how to do this but it's doable) then put a paper towel soaked with distilled water (tap water probably OK) in the microwave, heat the towel and quickly put the print head on the hot paper towel. As a last resort simply order a new print head from the Internet and replace the print head. I would presume it would come with instructions for removing the old print head.
Try selecting an option in the printing properties to print in grayscale or black and white (you usually only have either one or the other).
This will utilise ONLY the black cartridge, the color will remain dormant which should make your prints come out in black and white - if not, your black cartridge, or the space between the bottom of the black cartridge and the paper is contaminated with color ink.
