Hello i have an acer aspire 5050. i am trying to restore it to the factory settings. i have made backup discs for the things i want to keep. eveything else i dont mind having to re-install or whatever the case may be. I have tried to look up information on the internet and on my computer and i have been unsuccessful this far. If you could help please it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: dont know how to restore factory settings
to restore OS (factory), there are 2 ways.
1. If you already create recovery disk, you can boot from disk and follow step by step.
2. I hope you haven't deleted the recovery partition in your hdd. If you haven't, Boot your computer, before it go to windows, press Alt+F10. it will go to recovery menu, this will wipe out your C drive.
you can order recovery cd from acer, but they will charge you (i don't know how much).

Restore and recovery
The restore and recovery features allow you to restore or recover the system
from a factory default image, from a user created image, or from previously
created CD and DVD backups. You can also reinstall applications and drivers for
your Acer system.
1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 Switch to the restore and recovery page by selecting the Restore button.
3 Select the backup point you would like to restore from. You can also
choose to recover the system from a factory default image, recover from a
previously created CD/DVD or reinstall applications and drivers.
4 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process

To restore to factory setting, power up the laptop, when you see the logo, press both Alt and F10 key, it will initiate the recovery program. Follow the instruction on screen to restore to factory setting.
Hello You can try 2 things Restore factory settings(if you had a 2nd partition,it depends on laptop some have special restore partitions on the hard drive. Usually you press alt+F10,F10,F11 or F12 after powering on the laptop, and it goes into a restore program that wipes your drive clean and returns the laptop back to the way it was when you first purchased it. Note all your programs and data will be WIPED clean if you restore the computer.
Or try to repair your windows like this
1st option Place the installation disc in the drive. Restart the system. When the prompt appears on the screen, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
*Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings.

2nd option On the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it. You will have Startup Repair and System Restore. Hi, If the laptop didn't come with restore CD's then chances are that there is a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that you need to access to recover it back to factory state. Restart the PC and press ALT+F10 to get into the recovery mode and restore the laptop, you can also try empowering technology, eRecovery software to restore the machine.
If windows is running you can start it by going to Programs, Acer Empowering Technology and run the Acer eRecovery Management. Note that on the bottom of the eRecovery Management window are 3 choices, Backup, Burn Disk and Restore. Click on Restore. Here you have the choice of select Restore System to Factory Default.
If windows is not working but the system boots -
Reboot the system and when the Acer logo appears, hold down the ALT key and press F10. This starts the recovery process, just follow the instructions.
I assume from the question that you want to restore your computer to factory default - like the day you bought it. Warning - this process will wipe out all you data unless you back it up to an external drive or DVD.
