My D drive shows no free space. I cannot play CDs as the message "please insert a disk into drive D" shows up even though there is a disk in the drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drives...I...

The D Drive will always show full. The problem is probably the drive itself. Try cleaning it with a CD/DVD Drive cleaner. Be sure the discs are not scratched or broken, check drive configurations by clicking "My Computer" theb right clicking the "D" dirve and lastly replace the drive if necessary. click here for desktop and laptop drives http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=5&name=CD-DVD-Burners

Acer Aspire 5920G wont play dvd, it wont even recognise them!

If it recognises cd but not dvd it means the drive is faulty. There is 2 lasers one for cd and one for dvd. The dvd laser is faulty. It also means that it is not dirty lens because it reads cd's.

Advent 7113 will not read cd drive

This could be the lense giving up.

Try a few different disc type (eg CD's DVD's CDrom, DVDrom etc) - if any of them work, that should indicate the laser is fine all round.

I'm trying to sort my Advent 7110 laptop at the moment, you haven't a recovery disc have u? LOL! Seriously though have ya?

Writing to a DVD+RW disc

You need to use DVD software such as Nero that supports DVD-RW. from the app is where you would erase and so on
also make sure your blanks are +RW and not -RW
