OK my xbox was not reading any games or dvds so i ordered a new DVD drive after making sure it wasn't the magnet problem. My original drive was a Hitachi, my new one is a Samsung-Toshiba, well long story short after I installed it I learned that the new drive need to be reflash. my question is, is there any way that someone of very limited knowledge about the whole thing be able to do this my self and could some post a link to show me how to do it. I'm not trying to pirate games or anything i just want my XBOX to work.
If you had bought the exact same drive as the one that came out all you would have had to do was change the circuit board from one drive to another.Byt because you havent your gonna have to use xbox 360 toolbox V4.0 and take the security key out of the Hitachi and flash it into the samsung which is alot more indepth.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

get a new laser or get another drive but make sure is the same model and exchange the drive board the original board is married to the motherboard so if you buy another dvd drive on ebay opened and remove the board and install your board from your dvd drive but make sure you buy the same type and model dvd drive and brand or just purchase the laser
This error is caused by not having the original DVD drive in
your 360.Only a professional can change
your DVD drive successfully.You will
need the original DVD drive to fix this problem.Without the original drive your Xbox won't be
playing disc based games again. A skilled professional with the original DVD
drive should be able to fix your problem.
You need to flash your dvd key to it.Every 360 has its own unique code, without this inserted an Xbox will merely play DVD movies etc but NOT games. If you specifically got the Benq mfr because thats the drive that was originally in there then you can simply swap out the pcb board inside.Disconnect the 4 ribbons connecting the board to the: Lazer Worm motor Tray drive Magnet/spindle. Then reconnect in the same manner (vice versa) and hey presto your all set. BUT if your drive originally was NOT a Benq ie Samsung,Hitachi or Liteon then you CANNOT do this and will need software for flashing your key to the new drive, you will also need to spoof said drive so as to look and react like the model initially used. Hope that helps
Your DVD drive is going bad.you can either send it in to Microsoft to have them replace it or crack open your xbox and get the part number off of the DVD drive itself and order a new one. if you order a new one, unsolder the circuit board from your old drive and solder it into your new one. IT IS IMPERATIVE you get the same drive as the one your xbox has. The xbox has like 4 different ones they use now.
LOL well 9 months later, I'll answer your question. EVERY Xbox360 dvd drive is "married"to it's motherboard. The communication between the drive and motherboard is encrypted with a key (aka- DVD-key) IF you don't flash the dvd-key from the original drive to the replacement then there is no way the Xbox will ever be able to play anythngg other than music and dvds. You NEED the correct key to encrypt/decrypt the 360 games so the motherboard can understand it.
I had the same problem,If it is under warranty send it in ,,, if not then you are going to open it up,, plenty of instruction on how to do this online (google it). see what type of dvd drive you have and then go on ebay and purchase an identical replacment drive. once you recieve it open up YOUR ORIGINAL DVD DRIVE and unplug the green motherboard looking thing on top(Big ONE) there should be four little tabs on this. put it to the side . now open up the new dvd drive and repeat but make sure you dont get these cards switched up.put the old key in the new dvd drive , plug in all 4 tabs, bottom one first. put back together and install back into xbox360. put xbox 360 back together put in disk and enjoy
When this happens this means that your laser lens is going bad. You can order a new lens off of Ebay and replace it or order a new DVD drive of the same model and replace the circuit board with the one in your current drive. The reason you need to replace the board if you order a new drive instead of just a laser lens is because the firmware of the DVD drive is mated to the motherboard. You can not just replace the whole drive and get it to work.
I've figured it out!All you need to do is make sure there's no game inside of your 360 (for this to work it need's te be turrn it off) take the HDD off the top of your console then turn it back on (without the HDD) then put the HDD back on top of your 360 and put your game back in.If it doesn't work the first time,do it twice or thrice or more.
