Usually you will encounter a situation where a wire will burn off and in so doing, it may trip a breaker,(turn it off then back on to be certain), or if fused, it may blow a 30 amp glass fuse or 30 amp cartridge fuse. Replace both tho eliminate any doubt. If all checks ok, disconnect the dryer from the power source and go internal to find the problem. If the dryer runs the same as before except it will not get hot then check your heating element that is more than likely your problem.

Trying to hook up three wire plug, witch wires go where? maytag atlantis mde6400ayw

the red and black go to terminals marked L1 and L2 polarity isnt an issue here, and the white or bare is the N terminal or neutral connection,if its non color coded cord as in gray insulated then the 2 outside conductors are the 2 hot wires L1 & L2 and the center is N neutral

Replaced the electrical cord on maytag atlantis dryer < a year ago, but now it seems the hot connection is burning up.

BOTH HOT "L1" and "L2" connections or just one of them is burning up? if just one you could have a partially shorted heating element drawing excessive current

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Replace the cord first. You won't be able to tell for sure unless it's replaced. Dryers pull so many amps and the dryer cord becomes hot while running it. The heat causes them to break down over time.

Dryer is a front loader approx year 2000 maytag. dryer wont turn on. already tried flipping breakers

Check the wiring in the back to see if any wires are burned off. There is also a thermal fuse under the top that may be bad. You can check it and see if it is bad. I bet, however, the problem is in the wiring. The plug that goes into the wall may have a wire that is burned off as well.
