Question about Hotpoint HSS25IFMCC / HSS25IFMWW Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Hi, my hss25ifmcc hot point frig stopped cooling. The evaporator is iceing but the DC evaporator motor is not running, suspect the dc motor is open or no signal voltage is getting to the motor from the mother board. This evaporator is equiped with a thermistor. I there a schematic available for this model, or is there a easy test to perform, to determine what part is a fault? Thanks, Wayne

Hi,
As the evaporator coil is frozen there is no heat exchanging taking place. The evaporator coil freezes only when the clip thermistor is not working. This prevents the evaporator coil from building up ice.due to build up of ice the evaporator coil fan doesn't run.Replace the thermistor This will solve the problem.
To check whether surely thermistor is a problem leave the refrigerator unplug for some time so that the ice in the evaporator coil goes off. Then plug the fridge and start it.You can find the evaporator coil fan is running.
You can order the thermistor from below website

Part number is 229
Thank you

Is there a reset button on a hot point side by side refrigerator?

Look how to repair Most of GE and Hotpoint Refrigerators. Here I replaced Evap Fan Motor, Defrost limit switch and computer board. Very often by looking at computer board u visually can see if its burned out, sometimes from back side of it one of the relay contacts burning out.

Rangemaster sxs cream . Why is my fridge and freezer the same temp ???? If anybody could give me an answer or solution.

Jason,
MOST refrigerators get there cold from the freezer side and circulate it via a fan that's also normally inside the freezer. There are three motors normally in a refrigeration system. The inside Evaporator fan motor that circulates air across the evaporator coil inside the box, the Condenser fan motor near the compressor that cools the freon after compression, and the compressor itself. If you open the doors (and sometimes you may have to hold in the door switches) do you hear a fan running? If not you could have a couple things going on: 1. The fan(s) has failed. 2. The freezer Evap coil may of iced over and the fan too is frozen stopped. 3. Your condensing unit:(compressor, condenser fan, condenser coils) has a problem.
It is important to know if the compressor itself is running. If there is a loose connection to the compressor via the start/over load relay (normally attaches directly onto the compressor), or if the start/over load otself is bad the compressor will not run. Best way to tell is via gauges but I doubt your frig has ports. Check to see if your compressor is really hot. Could be bad start/over load relay or bad compressor. Try unplugging your frig for say 30 min then, with your hand on top of a cool compressor, plug the frig back in and see if compressor smoothly vibrates for at least 5 min without becoming very hot or shutting off even though fan continues to run. The fact your fan is running TYPICALLY means the thermostat is calling for lower temps and the fan/compressor kick in together.

There is a horrible humming sound coming from the freezer. It seems to be the fan that is behind the piece of plastic in the middle of the back wall of freezer. The sticker in the freezer says MODELS...

Hard to diagnose without being there and taking it apart. Based on my experiences, I suspect the defrost drain could be restricted. The defrost water freezes in place around the fans shrould and the fan blade hits the ice buildup. If the ice builds up enough the fan blade will be stopped and possible damage the fan motor. Access fan area to inspect and defrost (hot water, hair dryer or let it stand overnight off. DC evaporator fan motor WR60X10228 est $85

Freezer has stopped

If it is a frost free side by side fridge/freezer, check evaporator fun in the freezer. While doing that, check is evaporator is full of ice.

if the evaporator is iced up and the fan can spin freely, you have a broken fan. Replace it.

If evaporator and the fan are iced up, you have a broken thermostat. Defrost ice with hot water.
Turn it on, if it starts to cool effectively, replace thermostat.

Fridge is not cooling but freezer is fine

Yes ! in most french door bottom freezer units there is a fan in the freezer behind the back panel that supplies air to the freezer as well as the frig. When the DC motor on the fan wares out the rpms reduce to the point that the volume of air supplied to both components is reduced to a point that the fan will support the freezer but not the frig. The price of the fan motor alone is around $80.00, if all of the components for the fan are replaced the parts will run about $200.00, if you are not going to do the work yourself it will probably cost in the neighborhood of $300.00 parts and labor.

Frig stopped cooling, unplugged & replugging worked - now what?

hi try out the following settings....
Check your temperature setting.
- Check if no ice present in the evaporator, try the defrosting
- Check vents if air is present if no then check your blower if running or icing evaporator.
- Check your vents if not obstructed with stocks, or the unit is not overloaded with stocks.
- Check if compressor is running continues, if not then you need a qualified technician.

i think after checking this it will work out for u.!!!
thank u

Fridge is warm

Hi!!! you have 2 problems that are causing your frig not to cool.First one is a seal seal problem, make sure that the compressor is running and the inside fan motor and the condensor fan motor locaated behind the frig..if the are then you have a seal system problem ,most likely a freon like or restriction..Second you could have a defrost problem open the freezer door and look bank on the wall of the evaporator if you see frost or ice then you have a defrost problem..Just replace the defrost timer and you should be fine..remember to defrost frig when installing defrost timer.Good luck.

Frig section not cooling and at time appears to stop but freezer is ok

There is one compressor, condenser and evaporator in all refrigerators. The part that makes the cold inside the unit is the evaporator. It's in the freezer, behind a barrier on the back wall. It's a "coil" with many small fins. There is a fan that blows air over the evaporator which makes the air cold. This air comes from the freezer and stays in the freezer. The cold food section (the refrigerator) has a control that opens a hole for air to pass from the freezer to the fridge. This being said...you can rule out the "temperature control" for the fridge.

The sound you hear could be the compressor relay, the evaporator fan or maybe something else. It could be bad, it could be not too bad. (Like a fan blade a bit unbalanced with dust)

OK,,, back to the evaporator. There is a little heater next to the coil that turns on every 8 hours or so to defrost the coil. That's called the "defrost cycle". Makes sense, no? If the defrost timer (common problem) or defrost control board (common problem) go bad, your evaporator coil freezes up, and that's not good for anything in your refrigerator. But it can often keep the freezer section cold. You can easily disassemble the evaporator cover in the back of the freezer and take a look. If it looks like a block of ice, you probably have a defrost issue. An even, thin coat of frost is OK, but lots of ice is a no no.
