You need to install sound (and probably other) drivers. Please refer here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=W764&osl=en&SystemID=INSPIRON1564&catid=-1&impid=-1
Enter your PC model, operating system version and search for drivers

Sound is not working

The below should solve the problem
1. Downloaded the latest driver from support.dell.com from the Downloads and Drivers section.2. Uninstall the Driver from either the Control Panel (Sound Max) or by going to the Device Manager and rightclicking the driver and Uninstall.3. Restart the Computer.4. Install the Driver downloaded.
If the above does not work
a) Faulty hardware is not allowing driver to be installed and sound to come out.b) Corruption in Windows, that would require a new reformat of PC.
