Question about Singer 3116 Simple

Open Question

I just bought a used Singer 211 U157A. At the store the machine sewed fine. Now when I thread the top, load the bobbin and try to stitch then the top thread breaks and jams up the bobbin area. The copy of a manual I was given is not the same machine so I have tried to duplicate the threading pattern that I came home with. Nothing seems to fix this problem so I can't sew.

SOURCE: how to thread the bobbin on a singer simple sewing machine

Drop-in bobbin: Note: thread must change direction when entering bobbin shuttle notch. Usually bobbin will turn counter-clockwise when threaded properly.

1. hold bobbin so that the tail of thread is facing to left.
2. drop bobbin into bobbin shuttle.
3. pull thread toward you.
4. guide thread into notch and pull to left so that slot engages thread.
5. pull thread diagonally across shuttle toward back of machine.
6. draw bobbin thread up through needle plate with threaded needle.

SOURCE: I have a Singer Touch N Sew Model 636. The

I had a Golden Touch 'N Sew many years ago and as the machine aged and parts became worn, step 4 of this bobbin winding diagram started to become a problem and I had to sometimes try several times before the "tabs" would release. If they did not release, the machine "thought" it was still winding the bobbin and would not sew.

NO MATTER HOW I ADJUST THE THREAD TENSION ON MY SINGER 2950, IT CONTINUES TO SEW LOOSE BOTTOM STITCHES. THE TOP STITCH IS FINE, I HAVE RETHREADED THE MACHINE AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

someplace I read hat on some of these newer machines we need to hold the bobbin so it gets into the tension slot , which we can not see . while bringing the bobbin thread up thru the needle hole . I did try it and it is simple to do . just leave the bobbin cover off till you get ready to sew .

Singer 4411 sews fine forward and reverse in straight stitch, in zigzag top thread looks fine on top, but all loopy underneath and will only reverse stitch 1 or 2 zigs or zags

check that the bobbin underneath has the same thread as the upper bobbin and that you push all the way on the lever when sewing back and also, go full speed as this happened to me and that was my mistake. Hope this will help you :)

Top thread bunches

try changing the needle--use a needle according to the fabric
being sewed
if thin fabric is being sewed try using a stablizer
rethread the machine top and bobbin--use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly and turned correctly
in the bobbin case
also try adjusting the top thread tension just a little

It sounds as if you have tried all the usual fixes so it might be a problem with the actual circuitry causing this. I'd take it into nearest Singer the sewing machine dealership or shop where you bought it and ask them to service it (or if still under warranty, for them to diagnose the fault).

Sewing machine will not stitch. The thread goes into the material but does not make a stitch. I've changed the needle, cleaned the bobbin, rethread the bobbin and the top thread.??????????????

Is this the first time you have used the machine? If so you need to bring up the bobbin thread by hand before stitching. Only when both bobbin and top threads are up through the needle plate nad pulled towards the back of machine, will the machine form a stitch.

Recheck your bobbin and make sure it's in the bobbin case correctly. There may be arrow diagram on face plate or bobbin case. You can also check owner's manual to make sure bobbin is inserted the right way. If it isn't, the bobbin thread can "whiplash" causing the bunching you've describe. If you have smooth stitches on top, your top threading is all right. I hope this helps. If it does, please let Fixya know by rating my solution.

Bought used--trying it out---top stitching is

Check to make sure that the thread running between the tension disks. A quick check is to lower the presser foot and then pull on the top thread. If you do not feel any tension, then it may not be ran in between the disks. Also, check to see if your bobbin is inserted correctly going counter-clockwise. This can cause the "loose" loops and thread jams in the bobbin casing.
