If you can't find it, how do you know it exists? I don't see it on the Sony Website If you were instructed by Tech Support to upgrade the BIOS, then they should have provided information on how to obtain it.
It is definitely the screen or the inverter. Usually the screen and inverter come as one piece. I would check with the manufacturer. Unfortunately for you, the LCD is one of the most expensive parts to replace on a laptop.
Just the simple fact of you mentioning that it works fine with an external monitor tells me that its not the video card. If it was the video card, you would see the exact same thing happening on your external monitor as well.
