Question about GE Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a GE side by side fridge Americana A4425GDTAWW, that whenever the water line is turned on and the ice maker is running, it floods the kitchen water pours down from inside the freezer like it doesn't cycle right or something so the water never cuts off. i was wondering if there were any recalls or what i needed to do if a new ice maker is the solution or what and if that could be sent from GE because of a known defect I've read about some similar things on different websites not sure if they pertain to my fridge which was manufactured on 6/12/06 or at least that's what the ice maker says. any info would be greatly appreciated maybe there's some easy fix with a clogged line or something Thanks Seth

SOURCE: Freezer and Fridge side not cooling

Sounds like your Defrost heater is burned up. It is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the lower cover. Look at the base of the condensor. Two screws hold the heater and two wire connectors. The heater is in a glass tube. Measure continuity from one end to the other, you should see a few ohms. if it is open, your heater is definitely burned. I got a good deal on a replacement heater on Ebay. I think it was $17 including shipping. The heater being bad will cause major frost buildup in the back of the freezer and stop the Ice maker from working and damage food. Be sure to thorougly dry the freezer compartment prior to putting it back in operation. If too much moisture is present, the new heater will evaporate the moisture into the Ice dispensoer motor and solenoid that swtiches from crushed to solid ice. Hope this helps. it has nothing to do with your problem, but please Check out my website www.playstationclinic.com

SOURCE: water pouring from waterdispenser in side by side refrig

Dispenser leaking----Probably replace the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in. Disconnect the water line to the dispenser there and see if it keeps dripping when you try the dispenser

I have an admiral American fridge freezer. The ice maker is continuously leaking water if the power is switched on as though a switched on. How can I stop the water ?

To verify if its the valve or the ice maker the easiest way would be to unplug the machine and then turn the water on. If the water stops, then the ice maker is bad and is continuously applying power to the valve causing the flood problem and should be changed. If the water keeps on coming out then the valve is bad and stuck open and should be changed.

KitchenAid side by side refrigerator doesn't make ice, very slow trickle cold water in door. Removed automatic ice maker and removed ice in discharge tube and reinstalled same. Problem not resolved. ...

check for a kink in the plastic water delivery line. If line is kinked do not bother to streighten it out. Replace it. Once the line is weakened it could break and cause flooding. When reinstalling the line and moving fridge back into place ensure that the line is not bent or kinked.

The water feed to the ice maker will not shut off.

Either the water valve has stuck open or the IM water switch is stuck. Unplug the wires from the water valve and see if the water has stopped. If yes it is the switch, if still running in the it is the valve.

Maytag ice2o won't make ice

theharrisont,  You state that...." ice maker stopped working after it flooded our kitchen floor."  The water works because the water fountain dispenser uses a separate part of the Water Valve. The ice maker portion of the water valve is defected and the entire Water Valve Assembly will have to be replaced.  Your problem is the dual Water Valve Assembly which is located on the rear bottom area of the refrigerator (follow the water inlet line from the wall to the refrigerator...the water inlet line connects to the Water Valve Assembly).  The significant info which you provided was that the ice maker flooded the kitchen which indicates the Water Valve Assembly is defected. Failure to replace the Water Valve Assembly will result in the same problem of flooding at some later date.  Replacing the dual Water Valve Assembly is just one step of several steps necessary to correct the problem.  You will also have to temporarily remove the ice maker from the freezer (usually a couple of screws hold it to the wall and a quick disconnect electrical plug) and put it in the sink and run warm water over to remove any ice.  Before you reinstall the ice maker you must check the Water Fill Tube that dumps the water into the ice maker.  Because you said that the ice maker flooded the kitchen, then the Water Fill Tube is probably filled solid with ice which must be removed.  A hair dryer is a quick way to achieve this.  Blow hot air directly into the end of the Water Fill Tube which dumps the water into the ice maker.  Note:  Use a long screw driver to insert into the Water Fill Tube to break loose any ice and continue to use the hair dryer to help to remove any ice. This should correct your problem

My fridge is not make water

I assume that you checked the water is coming out of the 1/4 inch copper /pvc piping that connects to the water line from the refrigerator' s water inlet pipe. In order for water & ice to come out 2 things have to be set correctly.
1. Make sure that a water filter is indeed installed and that it hasn't been there installed for more than 2 years as it could be clogged.

2. make sure that the small shut-off valve in the back of the fridge is turned on!

Good Luck!

No Ice From Kitchen Aid

Mark, your water valve has screwed the pooch. Replace it. The part number is 2199838.

What's happening is this... the valve that fills your ice maker is by-passing a small amount of water. This water has to flow through that tube, right? When very small amounts (drop by drop) go through the IM fill tube, they flash freeze. Eventually they (the frozen drops of water) form a big block of ice inside the fill tube. This ice creates a blockage which creates back-pressure whenever the IM "calls" for water. The back pressure eventually blows the tube off of the connection behind the fridge.

You say that this happened over night... no way. If you look closely at the ice cubes that you IM has been making, you'll see that they are hollow. Hollow cubes means that your IM isn't getting enough water... (because the fill tube is blocked).

ok do you have a meter a volt meter ill tell you a better way to do it go to the back of the refrigerator and un plug the water valves then open the freezer door turn on the water if you hear the water running replace the valves if you don't replace the ice maker module the range for pressure is 30-120psi the valve just might be sticking from being dry for so long
