Question about Vacuums

Open Question

Kenmore canister model 116.25513506 wont turn on. when handle switch is turned to floor. vac motor does not turn on. When switch is turned to carpet, floor nozzle works but vac motor does not. I checked fuse, all o.k. checked continuity for plug, o.k. removed wires for bag full switch...motor wont run. I wired motor directly power cord...motor runs. Thinking it must be the circuit board, how do I bypass it or test it?

SOURCE: Hoover WindTunnel Canister: Roller brush motor not turning

These motors have a fuse incorporated in the field winding and it sounds like that blew. These motors sometimes overheat at the front bearing and the bearing will melt into the plastic housing. This will cause the fuse to blow. It sounds like that's your problem. You can remove the motor by removing the three screws on the bottom of the powerhead and then check the front bearing for any bubbling or blistering in the plastic housing. The shaft of the motor should turn easily.

Kenmore Whispertone Model 26512690 PowerMate Brush motor does not run. The machine has no suction coming from the Power Mate Brush. However, I do have power in the main machine.

SOURCE: Central Vac will not turn on.

These problems are nearly exclusively caused by a bad circut board and replacing it is the fix. Bad boards can cause many different effects so its nearly impossible to be sure. The 9v signal wire is not enough to short out an entire unit so it is unlikely the hose. If it is a direct connect system and you are pulling power from the 110 somehow that would cause main unit problems but that is unlikely at best. Sounds like a failed board to me.

Belt won't stay on floor tool

The most common reason is the belt but since you replaced that it may be the brushroll. Check to insure it will spin freely. The motor shaft and brushroll must be parallel to each other. If the motor is not mounted securely it could cause the belt to come off. Turn the brushroll slowly by hand and carefully observe to see if you can see what could be causing it to come off.

Kenmore canisters are famous for melting the connection between the hose handle and the upper wand. They also sometimes melt between the lower wand and the power nozzle neck. Take it to your local vacuum repair center and get a diagnosis.

The powerhead on our kenmore progressive canister vac (model 116.25615506) turns on and off as the yolk handle is raised and lowered. what is the most likely cause and is it repairable? thanks,

Wires (pins) are burned in the handle connection, usually the top section by the switch, unhook from the metal wand and inspect the connection, look for black sooty looking pin holes or pins, check both sides. This means the pins have burned slightly and now have a loose connection with little or no continuity. Very common, you will need to repair with a wire Kit or have a professional do it. Horrible design flaw been going on for years with these types of vacuums.....ACE

On off switch will not work --always on on

sounds like the start relay is shot if you have a switch on the handle that turns on the vac
the relay then is in the motor compartment

Brush does not turn on my vaccum

If there is no suction when you disconnect the beater bar assembly near the hand hold where you grab the vacuum, then there may be either a restriction in the vacuum line between there and the vacuum section (that rolls around behind you), or the vacuum line from the handle point to the rollaround section is not properly connected. This all assumes the vacuum motor in the rollaround is running.

The beater bar section does nothing but cause dirt particles to be sucked into the vacuum system. The vacuum or suction is created in the rollaround unit.

Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on, but isn't clogged

Miele S251i Plus Bagged Canister Vacuum
Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on,...
Hi,

I have the above canister vac, which after my son tried to vac the stairs, it rolled down the stairs on him, but still worked, after turned off/on. Then after turned off maybe 10-15 mins., stopped working when we tried the switch. My father in law is our fix it guy, but still having a problem with the switch. Is there a wiring guide we could look at?

Thank you!

ALevy

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
You can try to call the factory for the Miele S251i schematics / wiring diagram @ the phone number and website listed below or I put a few pieces of information listed below that might help.
1. The vacuum cleaner switches off automatically
A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. Some models have a warning light (triangle) which comes on to indicate that it has overheated. Allow the appliance to cool down for approx. 30 mins. and remove any blockages to the air path.
2. The "Change dustbag" indicator stays on even when a new bag has been inserted
To ensure the dustbag change indicator gives a correct reading, lift the floor nozzle or power head off the floor slightly to prevent the vacuum created in the suction tube from influencing the reading.
3. The exhaust filter indicator is red
Change the exhaust filter and then press "Reset" to switch off the indicator light.

Kenmore 23513 canister vacuum won't turn off

Is there two switches for the unit, one for the handle (pick up unit) and brush assembly, and one for the vacuum motor? If so it seems that the handle unit is o.k. but the problem may be the switch to the vacuum motor. I would suggest testing the vacuum motor switch with an ohm meter for continuity through the switch. If its at fault replace it. You can probably purchase one from Sears or maybe Radio Shack.
Good Luck!
p.s. do not work on vacuum if plugged in.
