Tried to upgrade memory on Asrock K8NF4G-SATA2 to 2 X 1Gb modules. With one module fitted PC starts and shows 1Gb. With 2 fitted it will not start. Tried both modules one at a time in slot 0 and board will...

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/K8NF4G-SATA2/

I think the second slot for the ram might have a defect.

The problem could also be a bios setting or an update.

The bios can be upgraded while the system is running.

If you are in doubt upgrading the bios let a expert do this for you.

Remember that dust can make a bad connection and do not touch the contact points with your fingers.

Try to buy a can with compressed air and blow the ram slot out for dust.

The ram modules must sometimes be at equal size (mhz) in order to the mainboard can boot with the ram.

Good luck

K8NF4G MOTHERBOARD IS NOT WORKING

Your Video Card (Graphics Card) is probably bad. To isolate the problem connect another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same NO Signal Message then your video card is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays and works correctly, then your original monitor is bad. The fact that your monitor displays the No Signal Message on it shows that the monitor is ok.

If you have a laptop, the video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2 motherboard with on board NVidia 6100 displays in low res (4 bit) only no matter what NVidia driver used and refuses to correct even with video wizard. Safe Mode comes up in 32 bit res...

It seems that you have the incorrect driver installed. Safe mode uses a generic driver designed to work with all graphics cards. According to the documentation for your motherboard, it should have came with a drivers disk. The driver should be on there. If it isn't it will be here:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If this does not resolve the issue. I would verify that it is, in fact, an NVidia GeForce 6100. The only way to know this for sure, is to remove the heatsink from the GPU (the silver colored one in the middle) and find the Manufacturer's insignia on the chip itself. Be carefull not to damage the chip and replace the heat sink gel when you reseat the heat sink.
