That Network Appliance is really THREE different devices in one.
A Router
A Wireless Access Point
A 4-Port Switch
All you need to do is to connect an Ethernet cable from the Network adapter in your PD, to one of the 4 switch-ports on the back of the router+ device; which one does not matter.
The WHR-G54S has a default LAN IP address of 192.168.11.1
and Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0.
Make sure your computer has an IP address in this range 192.168.11. x
Open your browser
type http://192.168.11.1
you will enter the web interface of the router
root is the username and no password is needed.
Configure your router. http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c85091/WHR-G54S-Manual-v1.9-web.pdf
Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access.
The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key.
The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.
Although the specific ports may be different depending on your console )or PC) and game, the following example shows step-by-step how to enabl eport forwarding to open your NAT for game hosting, etc. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Buffalo/WHR-G54S/Echolink.htm
Try opening network connections TCP/IPv4 on your pc and add ip address manualy to be in the same number match the same as your router ie default gateway and preferred DNS Server eg 192.168.1.1 or 10.1.1.1 depending on what default the router is set on the ip address should be the same apart from the last no. eg 192.168.1.8 or 10.1.1.8 subnet mask will default to the right setting if you push the tab key after entering the ip address
you need to log in to the router.
YOu first need to hard wire your computer to the router.
In the web browser in the address bar... type 192.168.11.1
user name is root
password leave empty
now to to wireless settings and you will find key
