Can't hook up my new dvd/vcr tru tech

i have a digital cable box...and i bought a tru tech dvd/vcr from target...well i can't seem to get it hooked up right....and just wanted to know if you could give some advice on how to do that....its just a little off...i just get the blue screen i don't have sound or picture just the blue screen.....
