Viewfinder is displaying multiple lines and I cannot see object that I am trying to take a picture off.

No, I am only able to see a small portion of pictures taken earlier. The viewfinder is displaying the same lines in both picture taking mode and displaying pictures already taken.

I am in U.S.A. and the camera was purchased new last November so it should be still under warranty. Thanks

Are you able to see the pictures that were previously taken? Just trying to find out if its a LCD related issue or image sensor related.

IN that case it sounds like an LCD panel issue. Replcing the panel should resolve the issue. You may have to send it to an authorized panasonic service center. But first call up their tech support and get a quote. Sometimes the cost of this repair is nearly as much as the cost of the new cam. Please let me know the country you are located in so that I can get you the contact info of Panasonic customer service center.

Attention:
With [ ], the interval between the multiple shots may be prolonged depending on the shooting functions settings such as the image-recording quality or flash.

Are you sure you saw this in your D40x?
I know this is in my camera under personal settings and called raster in viewfinder. But I can't find anything in the D40 or D40x manual.

There's a diopter control near the viewfinder to adjust the viewfinder to your eye. Try adjusting that while peering into the viewfinder and try to get the focus brackets and the data at the bottom of the viewfinder into focus.

Point the scope to a distant object like the top of a telephone pole.

Without moving the telescope adjust the small screws on the finder scope to LINE-UP on the same object.

SONY DCR-SR300 with CMOS viewfinder

I suddenly had similar problems with my SR300. I replaced the flat ribbon cable (looks orange) between the body and the LCD display and camera works like new. The ribbon cable is subject to cracking the internal wires where it flexes when you open and close the LCD display. There was also a new part number for the cable so I suspect it is a known problem.

Blured viewfinder

Look at the viewfinder on the camera.

Now look on the LEFT side of the viewfinder; just above the swivel-screen.

You will see a little thumb wheel there.

That is the focus for the viewfinder. Move it up and down to bring the viewfinder into focus. (Don't forget to do this while you are looking through the viewfinder so you can see what you are adjusting.)

Easy fix. :)
