Guys first make sure the freezer fan is working, then remove the lower rear panel in the freezer and inspect the coil for excessive frost, if there is than use a hair dryer to thaw coil completely. If you guys then post your full model #'s i can help with figuring out why the defrost cycle isnt working.

SOURCE: KENMORE MODEL 596 BOTTOM FREEZER, FRIDGE NOT COOLING

The freezer will stay cold because a small amount of cold air will be forced through the frost but that will not be enough to make it up to the refrigerator portion. You can defrost the unit by removing the metal panel and allowing the frost to melt. Careful use of a hairdryer can speed up this process. This will likely be a temporary fix. The root cause of excessive frost can be caused by a bad door seal or a defective defrost circuit.

First check that the door seal is good by closing the door on a dollar bill at several points around the door, both on the freezer and refidgerator door. If you can pull the bill out with no resistance, the door is not making a good seal. Inspect the seal and make sure there isn't anything stopping the door from closing such as food, or a shelf not pushed in all the way.

If the door seal is good, the defrost system is likely defective. The defrost system has three main parts, the defrost heater, thermostat, and timer. None of these parts are particularly expensive, or difficult to replace you feel comfortable with repairing it yourself. If you can troubleshoot this by manually starting the defrost cycle. Let me know if you would like this procedure.

HI,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

thanks,

Fridgidare model number FRS26R2AWI , My Refidgirator side is working fine but the Freezer side is warm I took off the the freezer Coyle cover in the back of the freezer and they are warm any ideas ?

This does not make any sense because the fridge section gets cold air from the freezer via the damper mechanism that allows air into that compartment. The usual complaint is that the freezer is not that cold and the refrigerator is warm.
If your evaporator behind rear freezer panel is covered with ice the issue is with the defrost mechanism/heater element.

If compressor is always running and the entire evaporator is not nice and cold then you may be low on refrigerant.

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

My Jenn Air bottom freezer refrigerator is too warm in the fresh food (upper) compartment. This just occurred today. The freezer works fine. Any ideas?

sounds like the FF(Freezer Fan) is starting to wear out. This fan problem is very hard to diagnose because the fan will still spin but not fast enough to circulate chilled air thru the freezer as well as the refrigerator.

If the freezer is packed to the top and the air ducts are blocked it can not share the cold air with the refrigerator and it gets warm. If this is the problem, then the next day it should get cool again! let me know.

Jenn Air JCD2389GTW Refrigerator problem

Check the back wall of the freezer section for frost. If it is frosted you do have a defrost problem. Timer or heater related. More economical to repair than to buy a new system.
