Hi,

You need to change the settings from the printer preferences from your system.

For windows 7 Goto Control Panel>Devices & Printers> Right click on the printers prefrences & under tab of paper layout/quality select black & white

For windows XP Goto Control Panel >Printers>Right click on the printer icon & select printer properties from their color management

Hi,

Do the reset and it will display the required ink level for your cartridges/printer.

1 Switch off the Canon MX300 and disconnect the power cable.
2 While press and hold the power button, Connect the power cable to electric socket.
3 While pressing the power button, press the "Cancel/Stop" button (red button).
4 Now release the power button and the printer turns into a kind of factory mode. Wait for 10 seconds until it says "idle".
5 Press ">" (next button) once "Shipping Mode 3′ then Press the "OK" button. Press "OK" again for "without cleaning".
6 A test page will print.
7 Open the cover, like you are about to change the cartridges.

My printers color ink cartrige has run out. I switched to printing w/ black only, but the printer still displays the alert and will not start printing. The model is a canon mx 300

All the Canon machines are that way, you won't be able to print unless you replace the color cartridge as well. There is not a way even in service mode to bypass this condition, they want you to buy more ink.
