Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I need to see the wiring diagram for the power cord hookup on a Maytag Atlantis MDE6200 AYW dryer. I'm trying to hook up to a used dryer, but one of the 3 original posts is broken off and it was rewired somehow. I need to see how the wires were originally hooked from the machine to the posts so that I can use a wire nut to correctly hook up directly to the cord where the post was broken

Need to know the correct 3 prong power supply cord to use for a Maytag Atlantis dryer.

Hi fredmcmur227...

There are many different pattern plugs and recepticals.
It is impossible to tell you which power cord to buy.
What you will need to do is find out what the receptical for the dryer looks like and match the receptical with the power plug your going to purchase.
I will also include a link to show you how to hook up a 3 prong wire power plug.
Please take time to rate me

Trying to hook up three wire plug, witch wires go where? maytag atlantis mde6400ayw

the red and black go to terminals marked L1 and L2 polarity isnt an issue here, and the white or bare is the N terminal or neutral connection,if its non color coded cord as in gray insulated then the 2 outside conductors are the 2 hot wires L1 & L2 and the center is N neutral

Can you tell me how to hookup the three wires of 3 prong cord to the back of dryer that came with 4 wires(4 prong)? Which one goes where? I only have 3 prong plugs at my house. Thank you.

The following link explains how to connect a power cord to your appliance:

Now keep in mind, some newer appliances REQUIRE a 4-prong plug in order to work properly. You may consider having a four-prong outlet installed to accomodate your dryer.

You can try these steps by referring to to section that discusses converting from a 4-prong to a 3-prong power cord.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Changing power cord from 4 to 3 prong

See this link and read the article carefully - if your dryer already has a 4 wire cord, it should be replaced with same type.

LDE312 Dryer electrical cord hookup

Your cord wiring, while not 100% correct was not the problem.
The green wire should have gone outside the terminal cover to the grounding screw.
There is a thermal fuse next to the high limit thermostat you replaced. Check it for continuity.
Remove the wires and use a VOM set for ohm.
No reading is a bad fuse.
Also check the door switch for continuity.
No reading when closed is a bad door switch.
