The iLo DVDR05 is essentially the same machine as the Cyberhome 1600 and you can download a manual for the Cyberhome 1600 at: http://www.retrevo.com/support/CyberHome-DVR-1600MU1-DVD-Players-manual/id/534ci861/t/2/
try cleaning the laser either manually by taking off the top cover then using a wet q tip then a dry q tip to abrorb excess moisture, or buy a laser cleaning disc imo is that manually is more beneficial
I have used 16x's but they were Sony +R's , besides this brand I will only use rewriteables which it doesnt seem to matter what brand those are. I only have used the +RW's though. My MU unit likes both but my ZU unit doesnt like th RW's as well. Wants to format and finalize, whereas my MU doesn't insist on finalizing it. Try the Sony discs. I just wait till they go on sale and stock up. IF this doesn't work maybe your unit is failing.
Check the capacitors on the power supply board to see if any one has begun to blow-up (the top is pushed up). My unit had 2200uf at c20 position starting to go bad. Unit would keep clock time but push the On button the unit would say Hello but would then not return No Disk but rather lock-up. Hope this helps.
